I've been looking at the M&P and the P99. I like the M&P but love the look, feel, and options on the P99 but can't find anywhere in DC, MD, VA or WV to rent the P99.

At this point I'm willing to take a road trip. Does anyone know of anywhere in PA, NJ or NY?

try Targetmaster in West Chester, PA. It's on route 202, south of Philadelphia. If you take 95 north into Wilmington (DE), and exit onto 202, it's just across the PA line. they have a website, long hours, and a lot of rental stuff. it's at least worth a phone call. it should take you about 2 hours from anywhere in the DC area.

I own both. What caliber are you looking at? I was told by numerous people that I should get the P99 in 9mm vs .40 S&W, my caliber of choice. I did not listen. I will now confess that I should have gotten it in 9MM has the P99 has a bit of trigger bite to it and is pretty snappy in .40 S&W.

I shoot .40 all the time so it's not a big deal to me, but it might be for you.

I too LOVE the look of the P99, but the mag release does take some getting used to. The trigger pull seems a mile long compared to some other guns.

I really like my M&P. I'd be much more inclined to carry the M&P than the P99 at this point.

Just a little FYI to add to your process.

Hey I had a P99 in 40 loved it, broke it and they sent me a new P99QA. Mine was a DA/SA with the old Mag release which is a bit tuff to get used to. The QA is SAO and has the new Mag release. It's great, it rides on both sides of the trigger guard and is much longer and can be operated with the trigger finger very smoothly. It barely noticeable as it's blended into the trigger guard. Blitz

I'm looking at the 9mm for the P99 and the .40cal for the M&P. I might just go for the M&P since S&W has that offer now.

Will try to post a note at the range bulletin board and see if someone has one I can shoot.
