where did all the primers go?

Any large rifle primer...CCI, Remington, Federal...you name it, as long as its a large rifle primer.

I bought 10,000 CCI BR2's a few weeks back...that should hold me for a while.

Walmart had thousands of CCIs last weekend but I wanted WLRs. Local gunshop had WLRs but said anything Federal was hard to get. Good luck.

Panic buying- wait a few months and it will return to normal.

I have just been buying what I need to get through.

Was just in Sportsmans Warehouse and picked up 1000ea of CCI small rifle, large rifle, & large pistol...they just got some in. But no Federal, Winchester or Magtechs in stock. Also grabbed 3lbs of POWder.

Primers are difficult to find here too. For what it's worth, I always used Fed 215 Magnums for my .300 Win mag, but couldn't locate any. I bought Winchester Magnum primers instead...they work as well, if not better. I tend to suffer from brand loyalty once I locate something that works.

I had been trying to locate some Federal 215 LRM primers. I was putting in a order with Powder Valley for some powder and pistol primers. They didn't have any Federal 215's and said they have been hard to order all year and had no idea when they would get any in.

I found some at Midsouth, but midsouth did not have the items that powder valley had...so I had to order from 2 seperate places. I prolly coulda waited for Powder Valley to get the Federal primers in, but by they time they might have been out of my other items, so I got it over with.

Last week's gun show was full of primers. Three different vendors had literally a hundred boxes of each size. They even had Magtech and Wolf, not just Winchester and Federal.

There were also tens of thousands of hi-cap magazines, and hundreds of AR and AK and SKS rifles.
Frankly, I don't know why the ridiculous shortages exist in some localities.

I bought 2000 small pistol primers from my regular guy at the gun show last weekend. He had quite a few. I have been doing a little primer testing and wanted CCI's, but he was out so I bought Winchesters. I buy 2 or 3 K every show. If I get below my happy spot in primers, I buy in bulk on line to keep my "minimum inventory" at the proper levels. That way, during these times when suppliers are having a tough time keeping them in stock, I am good to go. Been through this before, as many here have.

I think I need to visit ants and stock up on stuff. :D

Lucky fellow.

I picked up some Winchester primers earlier this week at a little hole in the wall local gun shop that a friend turned me on to.

The primer box was a little dusty but the primers fired 100% in a .40 S&W.

I went back and bought 3 cases (15K)....all that he had on the shelf.

They were $50 per case. :D

If someone wants to label this as panic buying, go ahead....for $10 a brick, I can panic all day long. :neener:

At $50 a case, that's very smart buying. A guy could easily sell half to cover the cost of the other half, and still be providing a bargain.

There were plenty of them at a gun show I went to yesterday. Winchesters by the 1000 piece boxes, no problem with supply.

Be prepared for some sticker shop if you haven't bought any lately. I paid $27.95 for a 1000 piece box. A far cry from just a few short years ago.

I don't imagine the price will come down any time soon.

Other vendors had Federals, CCIs, and a small amount of Remingtons. Plenty of supply.

I just ordered a thousand count box of Winchester large rifle primers from Powder Valley. $24.00

What about the $20.00 hazmat fee tacked on with that ? I have had to place a big order with more primers and powder to offset it.

around here they make up the hazmat fee big time......something like a buck per 100.....

after Saturday powder hunting expedition found 1 lb of the 5 I need...... I got home and figured it up I come out way ahead ordering on-line from almost anyone and pay shipping and Hazmat and the dealers cry about the hazmat fee

YIKES, thanks for reminding me about primers. I am down to about 23,000 left, thank god the Tanner show is next weekend in Denver. and 12 pounds of powder.

About primers, I read someone uses Mag Pistol in the AR 15 .223, does that make sense?
