Where do you get your wheelies?

Hi...
Here in southcentral Pa, I find that some LGS are more likely to have used revolvers than others.
Everybody knows what the value is thanks to the Internet...no steals to be had.
Now and then, a private individual at a gunshow will have something at a really good price. You need to show them cash to negotiate a lower price...something about $100 dollar bills being waved around really gets the negotiating rolling.

20 years ago, you could get good deals at an LGS on used S&W or Dan Wesson revolvers. It seems those day of are gone...quality used revolvers at low priced are about as common as honest used car salesmen

I think it also depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for beautiful revolvers like Driftwood's, it might be difficult to get a bargain. I wouldn't know.

I am always looking for shooters. If a reputable seller says that it locks up tight and everything seems to work correctly, I don't care if it has a dent on the grips or some scratches on the finish or has been refinished or whatever. Those are the potential bargains, and I have gotten some excellent shooters for very good prices off of Gunbroker, and also Gunauction dot com.

If I were going to plunk down a larger amount for something with collector value, I would probably want to see it in person.

You might try searching with gunwatcher.com. I see some deals on there from time to time. It also might help to join a forum, such as the Smith & Wesson forum. Again, the deals are occasional, but if you check regularly, you'll see some good ones.

I buy mine mostly online through the various auction sites and forums. I have a pretty specific collecting interest (S&W N frame .44 Special Hand Ejectors), and I've only ever found one of those locally.

In my area, most folks dump revolvers in favor of the latest tacticool autos. There are also many folks who sell their collections of rarely used revolvers.

So, for me the best source has always been LGS.

Most of my local shops price these revolvers to move, so I've definitely benefited...

I know your situation is different, but it may make sense to widen your search and hit a few Gun Shops in areas that are a bit further away.

You may also try private sellers at local ranges. There is usually a classified board around where folks list revolvers for sale.

Hope that helps...

In the last couple of years, I've acquired revolvers from the following sources:
1. Old friend disposing of his collection
2. Local gun show
3. Local classified ads
4. GunBroker
5. Classified section of a brand specific internet forum

I see very few revolvers in the guns shops in my area. Maybe because I don't go there very often.

my local shop has decent prices but i found a small shop about 30 miles away that beats anything i have found online. i got my lcr 9mm just before Christmas and they beat buds and other online stores. my lcr didn't come with moonclips and the shop called ruger, i called too when i got home. ruger sent me a set of 3 and the shop a few days later sent me 6 more in the mail. they have my business from now on.

Local shops around here are all $300 less gunbroker. Like new in the $500/600 range would likely be atleast $900 online. It does help to make a relationship with the stores. That's how I got a mint 28-2 for $473 out the door.
