What is the current state of Coonan? If you go to their company website, you see this:
Coonan Inc. wants to reach out to our loyal customers and dealers…
Coonan Inc. is NOT GONE!
Due to contractual obligations, we have been unable to discuss the big changes that are happening.

We sincerely apologize for the lack of communication. This process has taken far longer than we had anticipated, but there have been a lot of things going on behind the scenes. We have been working very hard to restructure the company in ways that will allow us to serve our customer’s needs better and faster. These changes will also allow us to pursue even more exciting new projects.

While obstacles can pop up easily during this type of transition, we do hope to have things up and running by the end of November. Once we have completed the process, we will contact our customers with delivery dates on orders for pistols, FAL receivers, and accessories.

Thanks again. We truly appreciate your patience!

Why do I get the feeling the November they are referring to has already come and gone.....

They said obstacles can pop up quickly.

Well if somebody bought the name then I guess it still holds true that Coonan Inc. is NOT GONE!

Poor Coonan. Gone, gone, gone, at the end, putting out "WE ARE IN BUSINESS!!" propaganda as the business was failing, all in an attempt to keep the customer money flowing. The future is just so bright by their announcement, spend, spend, spend. If you sent them cash for a firearm, and you did not receive the firearm before the bankruptcy proceedings, you don't get a refund.

take a look at the auction contents:

they even sold the ISO shelter used as a test range:

I don't see any ventilation. The range shooters must have acquired a ton of lead inside their livers.

This is one business that is not going to be resurrected.

Owner's of Coonan pistols are going to have to scrounge for spare parts. Hope you have spare hammers and sears, they wear out, and firing pins, firing pin springs, and extractors.

I know of one local dealer who got modestly screwed through all of this.

I thought I heard that a premium maker bought the name, so a .357 mag 1911 may be revived but it was always a limited market so who knows. For those of you with better knowledge of the auction or ways to find out info, do we know who bought the name?

Too bad, they were cool guns. But owners should not be freaked out because they now own a collectible. At least the first generation that I sold was. I’m sure these second generations will follow suit.

Now, whether you should shoot the snot out of them is another matter.

That’s a bummer that some folks may have lost money on preorders. I can relate. I got burned on a preorder in the 80s. I will never do that again, no matter the temptation. And that has proved out with new Auto Mags, Bren Tens (twice), and Merwin and Hulberts (twice).

Dan Coonan took a lot of peoples money, and delivered nothing in return, despite promises that if buyers were patient, they'd receive their guns and FAL receivers. He screwed a LOT of people over, and a class action suit is in the works to attempt to recover some of that money.

Did you get burnt on magazines also? I did a quick search on Coonan magazines, and the few sites I went to, they are all out.

I remember the days of $200 Bren Ten magazines, and what do you know, a Bren Ten magazine sold on Gunbroker in Jan for $240.00. Guess they went up.

Sorry I didn’t explain. I got burned on a preorder AR 15 shotgun around 85/86. I don’t remember the name of the gun, but the company was called Spectre. Funny how it took almost 35 years for 12 ga AR’s to finally cone to pass.

Yeah, Bren Ten mags bring crazy money. Glad I have all I need and then some.

That’s a shame. It appeared to be a well engineered piece. Hickok45 did a review that was largely very favorable:
