We are currently experiencin a delay in the delivery of a key part needed for the LCP recall. This has set us back on the retrofit of your LCP. We are working diligently to resolve this issues and as soon as we recieve the parts needed, your LCP will be repaired and returned. We estimate a 4-5 week delay, as we work through ther backlog of returned LCP's. We value you as a customer and we sincerely aplolgize for the delay and ask for your patience in this matter. This also delayed the shipments of return packaging by the same time period. Sincerely, Ruger Recall

The above email was received from Ruger today in response to my inquiry. (I shipped mine back the latter part of December)........Just FYI if you have a recalled LCP in Phoenix.........

You've got to love the cone of silence in which Ruger operates. They refuse to disclose what changes are made to these pistols during their recalls, and when a part supposedly ceases to exist, they offer no explanation whatsoever as to what it is or why.

Is it a wing-nut, a lug nut, a washer or a pin? We mere customers will never know.

This secrecy is not a confidence builder.

Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord......

I couldn't care less if its a thingamajig, nut, wotizit, screw or what ever. I was merely trying to share some information with other LCP owners that might have a pistol still in Phoenix. I have six pistols under this roof besides the LcP. I honestly don't think that 30 days is going to ruin the rest of my life. I'm just proud that Ruger was man enough to take care of us poor, pitiful creatures that made the horrible mistake of purchasing their little worthless LCP. I retired from the worlds largest farm equipment manufacturer as a factory rep (Territory Manager) (Hint.....Green and Yellow). We would have mods and run out of parts. Do you think that we called or wrote our customers and described the part that we were short on in great detail or even mention the specific part. And we had and still have the strongest customer loyalty in the business. Why???? Because we did what we said we would do. What in the name of the universe does it matter??? I am so sick of the bashing that goes on I may vomit to the extent that I see my shoes pass through and out of my mouth.

I am so thankful that I derive my pleasure from this site and this hobby in sharing information with other gun lovers with a little common sense and a whole lot more love for shooting and collecting than picking every little detail apart......this bashing thing is so negative that I'd have ulcers if I participated in it. Thank God my life is bigger than that.

It's my gun, my money, my life and inspite of this great horrible situation, I just think that I may make it through unscathed.........

If it will help any, please send me your addresses and I'll send you 75 cents so you can call someone that really gives a ^%$#*&$#@& what you think about Ruger!

And please don't say "It just takes some people longer to learn".....I saved you the trouble.....I just said it for you!!!!

Ole Codger, some people love to HAMMER, just the natrue of the internet.

I'll bet ol John deere told every person when they had a recall exactly what parts they replaced yadda yadda????

Jocko,

The farmers/ranchers/dairymen/forresters/poultry growers, etc....could not have cared less what the part was or what it did in the scheme of things. Everyone can't be an engineer so if the part was described in great detail, what purpose did/does it serve?? I feel about gun manufacturers the same as I feel about grown men.........your word is good enough for me until you prove me wrong, do what you say you will do and I'm not only happy, you've built my trust in you.....very simple :banghead:

My Dad drilled two things into me that I shall never forget: Protect your name and your credit..........everything else will fall into place.

Yeah, my LCP went and came home fixed in 5 days. Given the number of LCPs sold, it's probably inevitable that they'd run low on parts at some point.

Perhaps they shouldn't have sent out the (prepaid) return packaging until the parts issues were resolved, but I have to give them credit for actually trying to fix the problem.

I have never heard of another firearm manufacturer performing a recall. I wish Kel-Tec had recalled one (or all) of my four K-Ts.

Well Doggone It....

Orion, you must remember. Ruger is the first one to have a problem. All others build to perfection!!! Except...........my son's Kimber.....had a problem, he sent it back, Kimber fixed it and he's happy....Do you think that he's bashing Kimber?????? Certainly not.......they took care of the problem. I'm getting too old to put up with all the nonsense...........do you know if there are bashers in the stamp collecting hobby????? :D

orionengnr. owned 3 kt's sent them all back 17 times, no lie either. Recall is not a word that is even allowed inside of that factory..

Ruger did the right thing, they won't please everyone either. Heh, I don't like their new lcr but it sure looks nice to many readers. We all have opinions and something similar to IT?????

you know, that just does not make sence to me. they said that they would send you the shipping container and instructions WHEN THEY HAD THE PARTS TO FIX your gun. so, (i am in the same place as you, i think) (although i have not been notified of a delay yet) if they had the parts to fix your gun, before they sent you the shipping container and instructions, why would there be a delay:confused:?? unless, the replacement parts have been found to be substandard:banghead::banghead::banghead:!?!? OOOOOPPPPPPSSSSS!:banghead:

when a part supposedly ceases to exist, they offer no explanation whatsoever as to what it is or why.

They said there had been a shipping delay. Seems pretty easy to understand to me.

They refuse to disclose what changes are made to these pistols during their recalls

They told me everything they did to the pistol in a letter when they sent it back. Even the website says it is an upgrade to the hammer mechanism. No offense, but if they gave you more information than that, it probably would be lost on most people unless they are firearms engineers.

Hey Lone Gunman.....

Do you know of an ant hill that you and I could go mountain climbing over!!! Seems these ant hills just keep on getting taller and taller........one of these days I just may not make it to the top!!!! :D

I am getting older every day, and agree the ant hills are really starting to pile up.

The thing is, most of the people wanting to know what they are doing with the recall would not know what to make of the information.

Wow, some people have some really stupid things to add to these online forums.

What a joke Ruger has become. orchidhunter
Perfect example of a really stupid comment... I wouldn't expect anything less of you, orchidhunter. You seem to love adding your stupid and unbacked replies to just about any thread you can click on.

Anyhow. I got my Ruger LCP back from the recall upgrades today. It took almost a month from the day I sent it in. No big deal. At least Ruger takes responsibility and takes care of their customers.

This is what came back with my gun:

An extra magazine with a pinky extension and a cheesy baseball cap that says, "the RUGER LCP." LOL!

It also came with a thin paper strip that had the following memo on it:

"We have run into a supply issue with one of our vendors and are currently getting another vendor on line to boost the supply of a key part. We should have this issue resolved in the next few days. We do apologize for the delay in the return of your LCP."

Then there is the official letter that came with the package as well. It reads the following:

"Dear LCP Owner,

I want to thank you for your purchase of a Ruger LCP pistol and apologize for the inconvenience caused by the recent recall. We appreciate your patience and hope that you will find the wait worthwhile. Not only have we addressed the original issue but, as you handle and shoot your LCP pistol, you may notice other improvements as well.

Over the course of building and shipping many thousands of LCP pistols - and getting great feedback from active LCP pistol users - we made a number of running changes to continuously improve the LCP pistol. When we received your LCP pistol back for the free safety up-grade, we not only installed a new hammer mechanism, but also incorporated other available changes to further improve your LCP.

It is likely the only one you will be able to see is the new manual slide hold-open (assuming you did not have it already), but other, more subtle improvements have been incorporated too, and these should make your LCP even more rugged and reliable in the best Ruger tradition.

Enclosed you will find an extra LCP magazine as promised in our recall notice. This new magazine has our new, very popular finger-extension floorplate, which makes it even easier to have a firm grip on your LCP. We recognize the inconvenience a recall creates so, as an additional small token of our appreciation, we have also included an LCP cap.

Once again, thank you for your patience and I hope you will consider Ruger's extensive product line when you plan your next firearm purchase.

Sincerely,

Michael O. Fifer
President and CEO

It does NOT get any better than that. Bravo and hats off to Ruger for taking full responsibility and acting in the most professional manner possible. I don't think any other company can match the outstanding service Ruger has provided us LCP owners during this recall. Everyone I spoke with on the phone was extremely polite and friendly. Again, they deserve so much credit for tackling this recall process the way they did. It isn't easy for a company to take a hit and admit when they screwed up. But at least they weren't cowards about it.

Besides, the free magazine and a "better" gun is well-worth the wait. I didn't have any issues with my LCP in the first place, but now I love it that much more. Big thumbs up to Ruger for providing a killer product and even better customer service! All for $300 bucks...you just can't beat that in today's cut-throat world.

Lastly, all you negative, smart a$$ people with nothing meaningful to add need to find your way off the internet so the rest of us can enjoy it!

Ruger is an excellent company and I have had wonderful dealing with their customer services folks.

I do not (yet) own a LCP, but I am an engineer and I do like to know what somebody is doing to my property. After all it is MY gun.

I feel the same way about auto recalls. My Chevy had a recall and I took it in. Chevy told me what the problem was and what they did.

My question is, "Why would Ruger not tell owners what is being done to their property?"

I.e., what's the problem in telling folks?

CP Shooter

Thanks for the info.....it's so refreshing to read yet another informative, well written, mature response. I think some of these people toss in some smart @*# remark, then don't even stay around for a response. I really suspicion that they were unable to pass their CC test, or their record check didn't come back just right and are taking their so called revenge out on those of us who did pass!!!!! And.....I don't believe they come back to the thread to read the rebuttals........therefore I'll get down off of my stump although it sure is a good feeling to get some things off my chest.

If you ever get caught in an "ambush", just call me. I'll do my dead level best to clear out an escape route for you! Although my LCP is still in Phoenix, I have another iron or two in the fire.........:fire:

May all your shots be "X"s and if not, may they not hit the paper at all so it will appear to be a "tack driver"! :D

Blue Collar.....

You're most welcome. Good luck and I'll bet your LCP already shoots like a dream so what will it be like with the updates!

Happy Shootin'

My question is, "Why would Ruger not tell owners what is being done to their property?"

Because the vast majority of gun nuts wouldn't know what they were talking about even if they did say what they did.
Because I to like to know how things work I would want to know what is being fixed/replaced, it would would be lost on most I think.

Ruger has amazing customer service. I work mail order retail and we operate very similar. I love it when a customer wants us to hold an order until the backordered items arrive and a week later they call complaining about not receiving there order. Ruger has a massive work load and coming out with the LCR isnt going to speed up anything

O ya they don't say what is being fixed so an idiot wont try to do it himself and end up killing himself and then they get sued.

I don't own a ruger (even though I regard their P series as one of the most bullet proof platforms in existence - dad has one I've shot several times), but it takes a really humble company, esp after the issues they had with the SR9, to issue another recall for their LCP. It was voluntary, they didn't have to, and I'm sure there were those in the company who said, "we cant issue ANOTHER recall, it will kill us.." but they did the right thing and are putting their customers first. Few companies anymore, firearms or not, do that, so I can understand some inconvenience, but Ruger is a solid company.
