First there was the German Hirtenberger. We bought all that. Then there was the Portugese, we bought all that. Then the Australian, then the South African, and we bought all that.
There's only so much surplus .308 floating out there, and not all of it gets imported. My next bulk purchase is going to be Georgia Arms Canned Heat; at about $400 per 1000 rounds, it's a far cry from the glory days of cheap .308, but you gotta do whatcha gotta do, I suppose.
Maybe someone can get Spain to stop dumping it in the ocean......Or maybe to stop South Africa from destroying the last 30-million rounds.....Ahhh to dream....
7.62x51 - about 5000 (2000 Port, the rest is SA and Lake City) of it is in my basement. About 4000 of components are there as well, ready for reloading.
Then again, 400 of the South African was just sacrificed last weekend for an Appleseed shoot
FWIW, I picked up 200 rounds of Privi Partisan 7.62x51, (the new stuff) and it was some of the best mil-surp type ammo I've fired. Clean, accurate and it all went boom. I've a feeling that S&B, Privi and smaller ammo companies are preparing to fill the gap for affordable, reliable ammo for us hungry .308 folks...Stay tuned.
