Where to buy ammo?

Ok Ive posted on here before about getting a family and my girlfriend into shooting. Now my family, the other family and my girlfriend are all going to camp for a week. Camp means shooting. Ive never needed to find mass quantities of ammo before, but with this many shooters it is clearly what is needed.

As the person who spearheaded starting many of these people into shooting, Im apparently also the guy who has to figure out where to get ammo and not get flat out killed on the price. Im looking for .38s and 9mm. Who do you folks buy from bulk? Are there any legal problems with getting the ammo shipped to my door? (I live in PA) What dealers are reliable and have decent prices?

Any help with where to buy and where to stay away from is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

their usual prices are okay, but once in a while they have specials. Sign up as a member and you can get email alerts. Also

I haven't bought anything from them; looked at the site once and found it confusing, but give it a try.
 
Sportsmansguide online frequently has good prices for pistol ammo in lots up to 1000. If you are a member of their buyers club you save even more.
Shipping on ammo can add up and make the deal less of a deal. Compare the per price round to the price at Wally world. Factor in shipping vs sales tax and decide. Unless the internet seller has a large quantity he wants to move and will thus offer volume discounts it is hard for anyone to beat the chinamart white box prices.

Other online sellers are cheaperthandirt....expensive shipping. J&G sales,
Kieslers, ammoman, ammobank, aimsurplus......the list is long and the prices vary. Use the search function here to get some ideas and then google away to get the best current deal. But generally for normal pistol ammo Kameapart and chinamart are quite competitive on practice ammo.
 
www.natchezss.com. They have treated me right and I buy most of my ammo from them. Never any problem getting 1000 round cases delivered to my door in a timely manner.
 
For in person, either a good gunshop with fair prices (which is hard to find these days) or Walmart. I know, I am going to get a lot of flak for this, but they do have good prices. Especially when the other gunshops charge twice as much for the same ammunition. They won't have a great selection, or SD ammo, though, or much in quantity. Every couple of weeks, I will go buy them out of .30-30 and 12 gauge buck and slugs.

Internet orders: see above posts. I don't personally do much business over the internet, and I can't buy ammo because everywhere I have seen has to have proof that you are over 21.

Go to every walmart in your area and buy out ALL of their Winchester White Box every couple days until you get your fill.

Remember to pick up the brass though.... not only can you sell it on Ebay (or directly to someone on here *like me*) but it's good for the environment.

Brings up an interesting memory. When I was knee high to a grasshopper we were camping out in a park in rural KS. A couple of us kids were on this trail that was basically a mowed path through the brush when I saw a bunch of shiny metal on the other side of the river in a clear patch of brush, we ran around the river as fast as we could because I convinced everyone it had to be GOLD! then we got there and found a bunch of spent shell casings, next to the river in the middle of nowhere. Trash is trash.
 
Walmart

I have no problem going to Wally world to buy my 100rd WWB ammo. I know that they're making very little profit selling it at the price they do, and that is the only thing I buy when I'm there. Plus, if you've ever been to one in Orlando, you know it's wise to get in and out in the middle of the day as quick as possible. $15 for 100rd of 9mm can't be beat these days. I believe they have .38 in the big box too.
 
Walmart is usually the best. If you have a Cabelas in your area, they are having a sale right now on Sellier and Bellot and it is pretty cheap.
 
+1 on Wally World...picked up 4k of 9mm this morning. @14.56/100 it's the lowest i've found anywhere...

I've ordered from Sportsmans Guide before. Nail in a free shipping code and it makes it well worth it (only members can use that code). I just received 60lbs of ammo shipped free at the club price. Savings over regular is only 5% on ammo but if you order a large quantity, that 5% and free shipping sure beats spotty supply at local stores and sales tax.

Gun shows are also a great place to find good prices too on bulk ammo (though not always). A lot of times different tables have various prices so I shop around for the best prices and sometimes you can haggle a little. Bulk ammo usually goes fast so first come, first serve. I stick with the commercial stuff and HSM seems to be a good deal. You can usually find law enforcement oriented ammo as well like Winchester Ranger-T, Federal HST, frangible, etc...stuff not stocked in most regular stores
 
Don't know if there's an Academy location near you, but they have good prices on 9mm. 250 count "Remington UMC" (not great..but not bad) 115 gr. "Mega Packs" go for $34.
 
I've been buying my 9mm, 7.62x39, and 45 at Academy, .22 at WM and 9x18 online. I well stocked right now and I've made a vow to myself not to buy anymore and will reload from now on except for 7.62x39.

Honestly, I was waiting for the woman to say something....but the only thing she said was after my buddy and I left with over 6k between us was "Come back and see us next week, with a snicker" not what I expected from a Northern Virginia walmart from a woman of indian discent.

She even went to the back to get us the cases of 10 - 100 round packs so we didn't have to carry all the individual boxes. She did ask that we helped her lift them as they were a little heavy for her.
