Hi guys,

Just wondering if there are any recommended places to by FMJ practice ammo? I haven't been paying much attention lately but prices have gotten a little crazy around here. I see a lot of the online sites are out of stock on many things. Part of the Obama scare?

The best place (not on backorder) I can find is wal-mart, winchester white box 130gr. $28 for 100rnds. Not much of a deal. I ordered 300rnds of .357 from cabelas on Nov. 4 (imagine that huh), and still have not recieved my order.

"...prices have gotten a little crazy..." Factory jacketed ammo is always expensive. .38/.357 FMJ's aren't exactly common to start with. You should be practicing with the ammo you intend using too.

I guess expensive is a relative term. In AZ, fmj .38 has always been very easy to find and relatively inexpensive. That's changed recently. It is true that you should practice with what you carry, in a perfect world. But, with the Corbons and Buffalo Bores I carry costing over $1 per round, no. I shoot just enough to make sure it shoots to point of aim and to gauge the recoil/muzzle flip. I can't afford any more than that.

Thanks for everyones input.

I bought some bulk lead .38s from Georgia Arms reloads for around 195/1000rds, but after the obama rush they don't even list it on their site...only their newly manufactured (and more expensive) ammo.

I live in a very urban area and all the gunstores and the Wally Worlds are out so I started driving out to the rural Wally worlds in small towns and they still have some because they usually only sell rifle ammo.

I bought 5 boxes of WWB (100 count) FMJ this morning for $31 perbox. Not bad and not good but I a where I want to be stash wise.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but try this site for ammo deals:

http://gun-deals.com/ammo

It has breakdowns of cost per round including shipping fromn a lot of places on the internet.

Still having trouble finding .38spl locally. Bass Pro Shop, Walmart, and Academy are all out. I found a few boxes at my local gun store, but it's $15.95 a box. Take what you can get, I reckon.

I could find it everywhere for $9.99 a box 6 months ago. What's happened? Nothing else seems to have taken off that significantly.

Learn to reload I'm running about $85 per 1000rnds, with range pick up brass.

I just received my Lee dies so I'll be reloading shortly as well. I've been saving up a few thousand pieces of brass from the factory .38 I've shot over the past year or two.
