LOOSE BULK AMMO VS. NEW IN BOX AMMO

I was just poking around online and went to Cabelas to look at there bulk ammo and noticed they have it priced pretty good. But when I got to looking I can actually buy S&B ammo by the box new cheaper than the bulk ammo. I was looking and the bulk 30-06 ammo was about $699 and the S&B ammo was about $499 brand new (per thousand rounds), I have been told that S&B uses really good brass too. Anybody else found this out already and Im just a late bloomer or got any ideas.

Military Surplus 30-06 is cheaper, if you're shooting it in a milsurp gun.

Are these bullets going to be used for hunting? I would get something much better than bulk ammunition for hunting.

How can 1,000 rounds of milsurp ammo be

any more "bulk" than 1,000 rounds of civilian ammo? :scrutiny:

A pound is a pound, regardless of what it is a pound of; a thousand cartridges is a thousand cartridges, whether it is milsurp or civilian.

As for S&B, I have had no problems with shooting its loaded ammo or reloading its brass.

Im sorry Tory I guess I misunderstood what you were trying to tell me, but what I meant is a 1200 rounds of loose bulk ammo from Cabelas is $699 and 1200 rounds of S&B ammo new in the box also off of Cabelas website is $264 I hope that clarified anything. I was just simply stating that the new S&B ammo is cheaper that the reloaded bulk from Cabelas although im not sure which manufacturer reloads them. SO wouldnt it be better to buy the S&B rather than the bulk?

Better to buy new brand name ammo rather than a no-brand reload...uh...yes!

There is only one company that I trust for commercial reloads, that's Black Hills, I wouldn't even consider any other commercial reloader, no exceptions! Since Cabela's never shows who reloads their bulk ammo in the advertising, it means that it depends on who had the cheapest prices the last time they bought it, so the brand you got last time may, or may not be the same.

Link to the S&B ammo you've mentioned?
Can't find it that cheap online. Am I missing something?

Edit: Figured it out. Price mistyped in the 2nd message mentioning prices.

I'm not the one with communication issues....

Im sorry Tory I guess I misunderstood what you were trying to tell me,

Let's see who's having trouble expressing a coherent thought:

1. Your first post said NOTHING about reloads:

2. You post two very different prices for the same ammo; and

3. You change the quantity.

Given that you posted a (sort of ) explanation in response to my post, I'd say I was readily comprehended and YOU are the one with "issues."

And a simple, everyday division of cost by unit would make the answer you seek even MORE obvious....

TORY

I dont know what your problem is, but you seem to be getting upset, I was not trying to be rude to you, I seriously and honestly misunderstood what you were trying to tell me, sorry for any misunderstanding, I was not singling you out or trying to pick a fight I REALLY DIDNT UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU WHERE SAYING. No reason to try to pick a fight with me. I am sorry again for any misunderstanding. And as far as for my level of education no insults are needed.

Not looking for a fight;

merely a focused question. Note further that I said nothing about your education level.

As to your cost/benefit analysis, there is a factor not fully addressed: salvageable cases (brass).

IF you are not going to reload, this is not an issue. Buy Blazer or, if you are desperate, Wolf (lacquered steel cases). Both are cheap; neither should be reloaded. Just clean up the range and don't leave the mess each makes.

IF you are going to reload your cases, the S&B becomes the even more obviously superior choice. Aside from being very good ammo for far less money (according to your figures), you will be getting once-fired brass from the same maker and, quite possibly, even the same lot. This is A Good Thing.

Even if you aren't reloading, recover that brass. You will find someone who does reload and who will appreciate it. ;)

Cabela's here in Buda charges 47.99 plus tax for 300 rounds of reman 9mm.
That is 8.00 per box for remanufactured 9mm:what: :what: :what:
Walmart has Winchester 115gr white box for 4.63 per box. I hate walmart but not enough to spend an extra 3.37 per box.

reloaded bulk from Cabelas although im not sure which manufacturer reloads them

Cabela's bulk ammo is UltraMax brand. I've shot it in 9mm and .45acp but not in any rifle calibers. I didn't have any problems while shooting, but UltraMax is very dirty ammo.

I was shopping Cabelas for there rifle and hand gun ammo I ordered 600 rounds of S&B .223 ammo and with shipping it was $192 for the whole batch. I didnt think that was a very bad price at all. I was also looking at there .45 ammo and found that S&B is a better buy too. So is the 30-06.

I wish I had the ability or the know how to reload but I dont have a clue of how to and my apartment really isnt big enough to fit a reloader anywhere that it wont be in the way. And as for my brass I usually give it to the range master at the range he reloads or if he is not there I put it in the brass buckete for other people to have. I have thought about saving my brass so when I buy a house in the next few months I can start to reload in the garrage. Know any good how to books on it?
