Where to buy lead-free ammunition these days?

I try to shoot lead-emission-free ammo whenever I can (meaning lead-free primers and TMJ or lead-free bullets). No one seems to have any in stock these days. Hardly surprising, since I'm sure most of the demand is for "conventional" ammo, but still frustrating. Any idea where I can pick some up?

A few years ago I researched this, and decided OSHA guidelines for blood lead level are way too high (40 ug/dL). They may protect you from blatant symptoms of acute lead poisoning, but doctors have since determined that much lower BLLs are still associated with significantly higher risk of many diseases - hypertension, depression, cardiovascular disease, and mental deficits. There is really no "safe" level of lead exposure, and the threshold at which the risk is not worth the effort of reducing exposure is probably somewhere as low as 2-5 ug/dL.

Some people may feel like they have the brain cells to spare - I know I can't afford to be any stupider than I already am.

Any suggestions are appreciated! I am specifically looking for 45 ACP.

Taking simple precautions will keep your lead exposure down. Such as not shooting at indoor ranges/confined space, tumbling with ways to reduce the lead dust (outside, dryer sheets etc). Lead also doesn't seep into the ground no matter what the EPA or the state of California thinks.

As far as finding some online will be your best bet. Ableammo sells quiet a bit of lead free ammo, mostly for rifles with the occasional .45

Avalys, if you find a good source LMK; we've been using Federal sintered/lead-free primered 9mm from AIM Remington "LeadLess" from natchez but they've been cleaned out for a while.

You can look for ammo with "TMC" (Total Metal Clad) or "TMJ" (Total Metal Jacket) bullets. Regular FMJ may have exposed lead at the base. If you reload, plated bullets have no exposed lead.

"Win Kleen" and any "NT" (Non Toxic) ammo will have lead free primers and no exposed lead in the bullets. I can spot that brass on the deck a mile away. It's shiny clean on the inside. The .45ACP will have small primers.

When I see "lead free" I usually think of solid copper $2/round stuff.

FYI Remington "LeadLess" .45 ACP is LPP and uses lead free primers. They are CLEAN though.

First I've heard of LPP lead free. A lot of people have been up in arms for a couple years over the lead free SPP .45ACP. I scrounge all I can. They would have been handy during the last Great Primer Drought. They will work with SRP if you have to.

I MAY have actually come across some of those lead free RP. I was loading up some .45 in RP brass recently & was kinda wondering why some of them were blazingly bright inside rather than my usual "clean & shiny" from the tumbler.:D

Yeah, I actually posted a thread asking about what powder they use, because it's absolutely clean. But it may just be the primers that make it so. Good ammo, good brass. Wish I could find some more at a decent price. Times are strange.

Luckygunner.com just got some Blazer Cleanfire in 45 ACP. TMJ bullets and lead-free primers, and immediate shipping. I ordered a bunch.
