I have a Walther Sportmodell V 22 bolt rifle my grandfather brought back from Germany. Is there a good website to look up info on this rifle? (sorry, i am a newbi here and google didn't help much...)

It has markings on the barrel: symbols and what appears to be a S/N, "73XX" followed by the letter 'O' (or zero).

I am not looking to sell it, but I would be interested to know its value/history and anything else I can find out about the rifle.

I don't know of a website, Algore had not invented the Internet for Nazi Germany and a lot of the relevant hardcopy records were destroyed by our inconsiderate bombers.

It was one of a number of .22 sporting, target, and training rifles made between the World Wars to teach young Germans shooting so they could attack France with 8mm Mausers when the time was right.

The cryptic markings are likely government proof marks.

I don't know any more of their story, but 20740 in the next room is a good little shooter.

Be careful of the plastic trigger guard, mine cracked just from age without even a hard knock.
