I just changed out a synthetic for the Boyds JRS Classic wood stock on a Savage short action. I ordered it from Cabelas and it was an easy drop in fit and looks great. If you aren't aware, Savage has two front action screw lengths -- one for wood stocks with box magazines and one for synthetic stocks (or wood stocks with removable magazines). You may need to get the longer front action screw from Brownells (part # 855-000-093).
The JRS Classic stocks at Cabelas are intended for Savage rifles with the staggered box magazine attached to the action and the 4.275" action screw spacing, not the newer centerfeed magazine attached to the stock with 4.4" action screw spacing.
Hope this helps!
