i need help! i just bought a used savage model 16 in 300 wsm with the detach box mag. the stock has seen its better days. i am looking for a new stock for this gun with a standard barrel and detach box mag and can not find anything. i don want a wood stock. does anybody know a stock that will fit?

If you do not want a wood stock, Bell and Carlson will have something for you. Places like Midwayusa.com and other will have them.

If you want a wood stock, you can pick up a factory original replacement in walnut stained birch quite reasonably (as in < $100) at:

I swapped out the factory plastic (pre Accustock) on my Model 16 in 308 (Pre Accutrigger) for a walnut stained factory birch (I think) wood stock. No complaints. I did have to shorten a stock screw though - the plastic stock pillar was a little longer than the screw distance for the wood stock (the screw under the bolt was shortened, the other screw in the trigger guard was perfect). I also finished the inside of the stock to seal out moisture. And yeah, its not real walnut, but it looks a heck of a lot better than the plastic. I'm happy.

Your Model 16 is just a short action Model 10 or 11 in stainless steel. Be sure to check the screw spacing on your stock though. The dimension was changed at some point, don't recall when, and easy enough to measure. And of course the box mag opening needs to be there.

Good luck!
