Hey all.... does anyone know where to get a M1 Garand converted to take M14 Mags. It makes it somewhat of a Italian BM59 (Italian M1 Garand with goodies). They used to advertise in Gun List and SGN all the time. Nothing there now. I have an extra run of the mill and tired M1Garand here I think I want to get converted.

Sarco Inc sells kits or parts I believe-- or I used to see them in their Shotgun News adds..

Yeah, Sarco used to have the BM59 kits, but what I want to do is have a M1 Garand converted. BM59's went off the charts money wise and I had my klunker M1 here that I thought I would giove it new life. There used to be a service that did it. The work is a lil more extensive than just cutting a hole and adding a M14 mag. The mag catch, the mag well and other things need to be done, angles need to be precise for feeding.

You want to to turn your boring old reliable garand into a new exciting jam-o-matic franken-conversion? Honestly it takes an super talented smith to do it right and I'm not sure who is left out there doing them. I would just save up and buy an M1A.

I have an M1A, it is longer than the standard garand and way longer than this Tanker Garand I want to convert, what I have is an M1 Garand Tanker (orig shortened version). Yes the conversion takes talent and this specific place, this is all they did, was convert Garands to take Mags. The name of the place just totally escapes me, I am sure it is due to my age and playing in Kroil all day. Folks, senility is not so bad, I just wish I could rem to put my pants on when I walk the dogs. I just enjoy in converting totally useful things in to other totally useful things.

i here ya. why not have the best of both worlds. a 30-06 m1a sounds like a good rifle. may look kinda funny, but hey, thats why we live in AMERICA! right?

Go for it then but just watch you costs a chinese M14 may be cheaper and you will end up with a better rifle.

How can a .30-06 round, which is 1/2" longer than 7.62x51, fit into an M14 magazine?

I assume he is converting to .308 or planning on using BAR mags.

John Parker: The entire piece is converted to 7.62 x 51............I have shot the conversions, they are really nice and extremely well done.

Sunray, yeah I know it is a hard conversion. I already have an M1A1. I am just looking for the addy and number of the place that used to do it. It turns out to be way cheaper then buying a BM59 and with this Tanker M1 Garand I have, it will even be shorter than the reg BM59 or M1 Garand Conversion. This will actually be shorter than the Springfield field shorty M1A1, I think they used to call it "The Grunt," or something like that. What will make this unique is being done on a Tanker Garand.

Lipadj46 - GASP.... Chinuk M14, Blasphamy you say...... Keel Haul that man at dawn....

1KperDay - Do you have Rolands addy and number ?? I do not mind waiting for something this cool. I was patient and waited for my place in a firing line position at Knob Creek MG Shoots for 3 years, I can wait for a M1 Garand Conversion this cool:evil:

The conversions used to cost like $295, 2 or 3 years ago, well within my blow cash for no reason except giggles budget. The Shorty Garand I have is at very best a $500 piece unless someone is looking for a Tanker Garand, then maybe a lil more. Adding this conversion still puts me well below the $1200 mark for a standard M1A1 of which I already have. Plus I think I only paid $250 for this lil beast of a Garand. I bought it from a guy at Camp Perry.

Believe it or not the Chinese M14's have been accepted by the M14 community. The forged receiver and chrome lined barrels are diamonds in the rough. Just watch for soft bolts as the Chinese had trouble with the heat treatment (as did the US manufacturers early in the M14 lifecycle).

Yeah I have shot the Chinuk M1A1's. I am an old old guy with very set in the mud values though, if I am gonna murder a Garand, I want it to be an American born piece so I can pray to the Garand Gods for forgiveness. I could not in any right heart be happy with a Chinuk anything in my life. Yes, the early USA M14 bolts were soft, hard to come by anymore, but I do see them once in awhile at Knob Creek shoots. They are designated with a dstt stamp on the under side.

Again though, I have a real M1A1.... I want to have this super shorty Garand Conversion though.

strip ur m14 receiver start puttings garand parts on it. looks like some one allready has i see a clip guide in the picture.

No the Pics are of a BM59. The Italian M1 Garand..... the BM59's cost way too much, I do not want to cut down and alter a M1A1......what I want to do is convert the M1 Garand I have to take M14 clips and shoot .308.

Transferable BM59's are like $11,000 or approx. The semi auto's are like $3000. My tanker M1 Garand was $250..... so I want to convert it.

It wasn't that cheap a couple years ago, and it definitely isn't today. You could buy BM-59 parts kits or partial parts kits for that kind of money, but the expense in converting an M1 to take M14 or BAR magazines lies in the custom machine work done modifying the receiver and other pieces. It would definitely be cheaper to get a brand new M1A Scout or SOCOM (made by Springfield, since that seems to be important to you) than to hire someone to do a high-quality M1 conversion. You're looking at many hours of machine work, and skilled gunsmiths with milling machines don't work cheap.

garands are not that hard. get a m14 trigger housing put your trigger & hammer etc on it garand trigger guard will fit also. take this & clip job shop. a guide block with hook for front of clip is easy fab.
