where to get a tap-o-cap machine?

One thing you'll want to know about his "tap-a-cap" is that they work better with the heavy aluminum disposable "roasting pans" you can see in a supermarket than aluminum cans (found that out from a tip over at 1858 Remington forum, works pretty good as you can mold that to your nipples easier as well). Don't forget to put at least 3 "Legends" caps for each percussion cap!

I noticed the Armstrongs Mixture sometimes falls free from the kids' ring caps and I have used a plastic ring cap on a cheap single shot (alright New Orleans Ace) and had it work.

Makes me think it might be easy to harvest the ring caps than the paper caps, though more expensive per shot.

I have found that a standard notebook hole sized pliers type hole punch can make disk from a roasting pan all day......not tried those punchouts to make caps with but a project for daughter when in middle school on art with recycled materials.

Cap Tins

I could not find the thread on finding alternatives to standard hard to open with lube covered fingers cap tins, so I started a new one.

I was out with the Daughter Unit shooting some suspect (read at least tree years old in bad storage conditions) diet Coke with a Crosman American Classic pump pellet pistol. I reached into my pocket and pulled out a pellet tin and easily unscrewed the lid using the ridges on both haves to hold it with.

Felt like an idiot for not thinking about them earlier for caps.

Does anyone even remember 35mm film canisters? Found one with five rounds of .38 Special RNL in a shop drawer last week, and one full off .454 RB in a BP shop drawer right afterwards.

Also found an old steel snuff can half full of # 8 bird shot. Does snuff even come loose in those tinned cans anymore? No I did not dip, but knew someone who did and now wish I had kept a lot more of those neat cans.

Also ran across an old auto fuse box full of .22LR mixed solids and cripped rat shot that used to ride in my glove box long ago.....another container I wish I had saved more of that would have been PERFECT for pistol caps.

Ran across some test tubes with rubber stoppers from an Ovulation test kit that are smaller than "normal" test tubes. I thought about them but even if they are some sort of clear plastic rather than the glass they appear to me the idea of keeping caps in them reminds me of rc's tag line about not kepping primers in a glass jar. They do seem perfect for pre measured pistol charges though. And there are two different colored caps.

Also ran across a wooden tooth pick case much like Grandma's needle cases those would likely work with caps. Might need to do something about water proofing them though.

Sanded a Couriously Strong Mint tin last month, apartially. The raise writing on the front is a pain, but the back can be mirror polished just because. I am considering hammering down the raised writing on the front and printing up a faux cap box label to fit over the ugly bits. The smaller cans have real potential for making neat little cap boxes. If the larger seem to big as cap boxes maybe containers for balls, conicals or felt wads.

I have also considered cutting down an M&M candy flip top plastic tube and gluing a clear plastic bottom over the newly formed short section. Easy to open greasy fingered and the clear bottom would let you look at how many where left without opening it.

Obviously I have stayed up past my bed time and am typo babbling so.....good night.

also I was wondering is kevin's tap-o-cap maker is it made of steel or aluminum and can it handle making caps outta of tougher materials like thin copper etc? thanks! :)

The on campus jewelry shop had a little two roller mill that one could use to roll down copper very thin, almost foil like.

I can not search THR worth a hoot, but someone not TOO long ago made a cap maker from a 2x4 scrap and the pull knob rod of a bathroom sink drain.

I recently saw a You tube thing where a guy was making Armstrong's by crushing regular matches and finely powdering the crumbs and then shaving the striker area of the match box. He dry mixed these together I believe three match to one striker in volume to make his own caps with from sticky dots from an office supply store. He warned it was very sensitive.

Ah yes guy goes by "The King of Random" (knew I could open another screen and search) He has little projects that will thrill any Y chromosome equipped human and many lacking that bit will be thrilled as well.

My son and I are even now searching for the major component of what I call his Atlantian Solar Jewel Weapon based on an old movie about the fall of Atlantis. Hopefully we will not burn a hole in Florida and cause it to sink.....

Powder must be pretty darned corrosive though.

Its made out of aluminum. As to using copper sheets, I've never tried, but pizza pans work, thats what I've used.
