I want to do a new schnabel tip for a 1903 stock I'm refinishing. I'm having trouble finding a source. It doesn't have to be ebony, any appropriate wood would be fine. Also, what size should I get.

Knife making stores - they sell wood blanks with appropriate dimensions for forend caps. And you can choose from natural, or stabilized woods if you wish.

woodworking stores/catalogs. I remember watching my father as he crafted a stock, making the ebony tip was done also. just part of a gunsmiths trade craft I suppose. holding a jewlers leupold in an eye as he checkered borcerless french.

well i'm no gunsmith but i'm going to give it my best shot. i thinned out the pistol grip area and opened it up so my finger naturally finds the trigger. I did end up buying an ebony block 2x2x6 for the forend. It has cracked a little bit but i think it's going to be ok. Now I need to order a pachamayr sc100 recoil pad for it while i'm waiting for the ebony to dry out.

Just googled ebony for sale, a plethora of offerings emerged.

It seemed like I was only finding blocks meant for knife blanks. I ended up using exoticwoods on eBay. My 2x2x6 piece was 22.xx shipped
