I am interested in taking my sks hunting if I go to my normal hunting spot this year. I don't need to, as i have a .308, but i like to get use out of ALL of my guns. Where is a good place to get SP 7.62x39, and is there any specific brand, or other type of round that is use-able for whitetail deer at about 100 yds?

I'm not a hunter, but Sportsmans Guide usually has Wolf and/or Silver/Brown Bear 7.62x39 SP ammo. I've heard of some good results with the Wolf 150 gr (heavier than standard) SP ammo.

alright, thanks. I always see it for sale when I am broke, then it is out of stock everywhere I go when I have money!

Sportsman's guide has Wolf 7.62x39 hollow points, if that may be of any use to you. I've put a few hundred rounds through my sks, and they are very accurate for the price. The primers are a bit hard though, so if you've put in a lighter hammer spring like I did, you may have an issue with the primers not getting hit hard enough to fire.

I used my NMH91 Norinco for whitetail here in TX one year.

Winchester offers a 123GR. soft point, that while a little pricey, was an outstanding performer.....I took 3 that year at a range of about 130yd.

I think they still offer it.....

Be sure to try out the Prvi Partisan soft point round nose ammo as it does not cycle in an AK with any reliability. I have tried it in several AKs and in every case the round nosed bullet jams up against the front of the magazine.

I haven't gotten around to trying it in an SKS but I would be interested if anybody else has experience.
