Hey. I live in San Antonio and Houston, on and off. I am really looking for a place to hunt. My internet search for places to hunt in the houston area, and the hillcountry area has turned up nothing but "Guided whitetail and exotic hunts, only $3,000 for 2 nights in incredible lodging" kind of stuff. I am looking for the type of place I can take a day trip to hunt for small game like rabbits and maybe hogs, without paying all kinds of fees. Does such a place exist?

I have never hunted before and grew up in a non-hunting family. So I am at a disadvantage here :uhoh:

I've been looking for that for a couple of years now. Best bet is to know someone with some land. Make a deal with the landowner, say helping clear brush or something, in exchange for being allowed to take a deer. Tell them you'd be willing to help clear out some of the wild hogs, too.

Malice I know what you mean. I hunt mostly public hunting areas here in northern Illinois. There's a lot of pressure that ruins the quality of the hunt. This area is still building rapidy and hunting land is harder and harder to find. The few farmers still close have many hunters wanting to hunt their property. If you have not already go to the Texas DNR website click here http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/public/lands/ and see what public hunting areas are near by. I hope this helps.
Hunting is very enjoyable but it take patience and money.lol
