I really want to go hog hunting but there aren't that meny where I am. whats a good southern state to hunt hog on state land. searched the internet a bit but came up with pay hunts and guided hunts. most look like farms, not hunting I'm looking for.( I dont want to to see the barn they eat in. ) so anyhow any ideas?

I have never been hog hunting myself, but I want to like you do. From what I've read in magazines and on the internet, Hog hunting is pretty popular in Texas as Georgia. I've seen loads of hogs in Florida, but I don't read too much about hunting there...

Best of luck

Trust me, farmers don't intentionally feed feral hogs. The best hunting is on private land, of course, at least around here. There is some good numbers of hogs on a local WMA, but you have to use buckshot (30 yards at best) and they tend to stick to heavy cover by day. I hunt my own land by night when the hogs come out. I've taken a few in daylight, danged few.

I hunted one place, 2 day hunt for 180 bucks (real reasonable) and shot my eatin' size hog limit the first day. The place was UNREAL overrun with hogs. Land owners are learning to turn a pest into cash, though. Good hog hunt will generally run 500 now days from what I've seen.

There's plenty of hog hunting on public land in east Texas. You'll need a 48 dollar annual public hunt permit to hunt and each WMA has its own rules. See the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department site for details.

I'll let other folks speak for their states. All I really know is Texas when it comes to hogs.

I have family in Ft Worth I'd love to visit them and hunt some hogs, it be worth some cash to have a good hunt.

Private land owners and ranchers are the ones with the feral hogs. When it comes to not paying you might want have a friend or folks you know that live in the rural areas. Most ranchers and farmers wont just let you come out if you ask for permission to hunt any more becuase everyone is too sue happy in this day and time.

FL has some good state and national forest land along with the WMA's. There are also a lot of timber properties where hunts can be arranged fairly inexpensively. Georgia, TX, just about every southern state has hogs that need hunting
