I've always been an "iron sights guy" for my pistols but recently picked up a red dot scope for my Beretta U22 Neos pistol. Does it matter where I mount the scope on the rail? I've got it on the next to last notch near the back of the rail near the rear sight, but I've seen pics where people have it mounted nearly all the way to the front sight and right in the middle. I'm going to the range tomorrow to sight it in, and I'm wondering, does it really matter where I put it? I'm thinking that it doesn't matter, as long as I sight it in wherever it sits.

I have a large (Burris) red dot mounted on a Beretta 87T. I fiddled around with the mounting location a little but ended up mounting it just about over the center of gravity of the pistol, so it really didn't affect the balance. Sounded like solid reasoning for me and its worked so far.

Well I mounted it where I originally had it, about where you said, right above my hand at the "balance point" at the center of gravity. I've seen people with red dots right up at the front of the barrel and it just looks front heavy. The BSA red dot was consistent, shooting low and to the right, so next range trip I will get it sighted in. Looks like I'm going to have fun with this Beretta.

I have a similar setup and it took a few tries to get the eye relief to my liking. I can only advise on going to the range and zeroing it there.

For me,
Closer to your eye equals a bigger field of view thru the tube.
Further out towards the barrel will reduce the field of view.
