Where to source a Frame

As you're probably aware, in the USA a revolver frame is the serialized part and therefore a firearm, so you'd be dealing with FFLs. eBay doesn't allow FFL sales. The 66-2 came out in 1982, so it isn't C&R eligible -- if you buy a frame you're buying a modern firearm under whatever rules in your jurisdiction.

Your best bet may be to find a gun being sold for parts and I suspect that will take considerable patience. You might look for a gun discounted for being that out of time.

Good luck!

Almost every revolver can get fixed. Until the frame cracks or stretches beyond repair. Then, that frame is trashed. The parts sold.

Many guns are sold at Police Auctions, with the stipulation, they cannot be re sold. So, all the parts are removed, sold for a profit and, the frames cut up.

The frame is, literally “The Gun”. Legally and repair wise.

Your odds of finding a revolver frame…are slim. People don’t swap out frames like they do with Semi autos.

When the first Para Ordnance frames came out, people bought them and converted their 1911’s. Then sold the stripped frames. I picked up one of those and put my Ace .22 conversion unit on it. But, there are no aftermarket revolver frames I’m aware of.

As a sidebar, assembling a revolver, from parts, is going to be much more difficult than you might think.

Assuming you want it to actually work.

The only revolver frame I have ever purchased was a Dan Wesson model 15-2 that had no barrel or grips, but the cylinder, rear sight and guts were all there.

I added an EWK 3” VH shroud and barrel, then some Hogue wooden grips and voila’! New gun.

As for a Smith, that may be a real toughie. Keep looking though, you may luck into a 19, 13 (for a two-tone!) or a 66 or 65 stainless frame.

Stay safe.
