I would like everyone's opinions please.

I just got my Rigid Alloys chassis for my BTVLSS and am going to install a Swampfox Optics Patriot 6-24 FFP scope. I am also planning on using the Swampfox Freedom II rings which are 1.1" centerline. With the Sharpshooter MIL reticle, I can use hold overs out to 275 yards (according to Strelok). I don't plan on shooting much past that.

My dilemma is that I don't know which base to go with. I am considering a 0 MOA, 20 MOA or 25MOA base. If I go with either 0 or 20 then it will be EWG and DIP for a 25. DIP is out of stock on the 0 MOA base for left handed MkII's

I appreciate any insight.

Personally, I prefer at LEAST 20MOA on any 22LR. Common 22LR’s with ~2” overbore optic height will have somewhere around 12-15moa of compensation at 100yrds for high velocity ammo and 15-18moa for standard velocity/sub-sonic ammo. So using a 20moa base actually puts us considerably closer to optical center than a standard base (not true for high velocity centerfire rounds). This means we end up with about half of our optic’s adjustment capacity when we use a 20MOA base.

Adding more declination in the base gives us more range. 40moa is probably the most optimal 22LR base angle - this gives us back our ~17moa zero compensation, then adds another ~23moa of adjustment access above optical center, which since almost all scopes have at least 50MOA of adjustment, that gets us near the top of the optic at short range, and gives us something like 300 yards with low adjustment scopes, and something around 400yrds with large adjustment capacity scopes.

But 20moa is the least I want from any of my personal 22LR rifles - because I know I’ll shoot them out to 200-300yrds.

ETA: most scopes have AT LEAST 50MOA internal adjustment

My plans are to start shooting out to 300 yards more than what I do now. Plus if I want to use the Swampfox Freedom ring the I need a picatinny rail. I couldn't beat the price of the Freedom rings (free with purchase of a Patriot scope) when Swampfox had their big sale at the beginning of the month.

Once I get this rebuild of my MkII BTVLSS done, then I want to find some places that have NRL22 or PRs type competitions that someone with limited mobility can participate in that is close to home. I am liking the Rigid Alloy chassis a lot better than the solid walnut Rhineland Arms Leopard stock.

Looks like your Swampfox has 90moa adjustment, so using the 20moa EGW rail gives you +3moa above optical center at a 100yrd zero, ~48moa total left, which will get you out to 325 before you are stuck holding over in the reticle. The Dip 25moa rail would only get you to 340… so not enough change to consider life changing.

I have 20moa rails on my target.22s and shoot out to 300 with no issues, mostly 200 and in though, Some NRL-22 matches won’t go farther than 100, some not over 200. Some folks like 30moa rails, not sure why, scopes with less travel or really stretching it out I guess.

Thanks for the replies. I think that I will end up going with the 25 MOA DIP mount since it is cut out for the ejection port.

PS, I posted this on several different forums. I only got good replies here and on ARFCOM. I had one reply on Rimfire Central that didn't even help. No replies on any of the other forums.

Here is a little tease of my rifle with the chassis. My DIP mount came today. I ended up using the Weaver Tactical medium height rings instead of the Swampfox Freedom rings.

Now to find the time to sight in the scope. Thanks again for the help.
