I want a new 20 ga auto to shoot dove and skeets, been reading reviews on several guns I like the beretta a400 but been reading reviews that are having cycling problems. I would like to hear from some 20 ga owners about this gun.

My first choice would be a Beretta A400 in the variant of your choice. For a budget semi-auto thats very similar, I like the TriStar G2 Viper. I own both in the smaller gauges and have experienced no issues. I use them mostly for wing shooting and trap. For 12ga trap I use a 686 Beretta.

Find a gently used Rem 1100 LTW.

Mine as 40 years old, had shot 1000's rounds without fail.
Had an older big frame 20, daughter-in-law fell in love with and in gave it to her.

Either will do you good.
Another vote for the old 1100 LT 20. Not the LW 20 though unless it comes exactly as you want it. Much harder to find additional barrels for LWs.

I agree. An 1100 LT20 is hard to beat. I’ve shot an 1100 12 gauge since 1980 and lucked up on a 20 gauge two years ago. They are hard to find.

I've only owned one Semi-auto and that's a Stoeger M3020. If I were to do it again I wouldn't. The gun works very well but being an inertia driven design the firing cycle is very clunky. It takes me a few shots to get used to it every time I take it out. Now I have shoulder problems and the gun is going down the road. If I get another Semi it will be gas operated like the Tri-Star.

I have one semi-auto shotgun and it is an A400 12 ga "Smurf gun". I've had it for several years and have not put a round through it yet. Beretta recommends a break in period with standard 1-1/8 oz rounds before going to lighter loads. After that, the gun should perform well with lighter loads.

I'm a big fan of 28 ga and would be interested in a 28 ga A400.

But, in general, I just do not want to chase hulls, so I stick to my over/unders when shooting skeet.

Beretta A300's were popular competition skeet guns in the 1990's and older Remington 1100's have a good reputation. I do not know how the current manufacture Remingtons stack up.

Any way, my opinion and $5 will get you a designer cup of coffee--maybe with inflation it is now $7.:)

At sporting clays a few guys are shooting Benelli’s and love them. Not sure what model, guessing mid to high price range. I’ve never seen one fail to shoot or jamb. I wish I had good luck with my 1100 like others, but mine has pissed me off more than once. It’d be gone but it was my first shotgun from my dad over 45 years ago.

I own or have owned Silver, SX3, SA-08 and Affinity in 20 gauge. Never had issues with any of them. SA-08 and SX3 are no longer made but the SX4 is the same internally as the SX3.
The G2 and SA-20 are supposedly the same gun. I know enough owners of both that I wouldn’t be hesitant to purchase either.
An A400 wouldn’t be a consideration for me because Berettas just don’t fit me well. I’ve owned an A300 and a 3901.

I am not easy to fit but with the shim system I can get an A400 perfect for me. Pound for pound they reduce recoil much better than the 391's or 1100's did.

anyone shooting a Benelli m2 20 ga and will it cycle target loads
My Benelli m1 20 ga does . And my Weatherby Element 20 ga (same action as the Benelli) does too. All I had to do to break in the Weatherby Element was to hand cycle the action 100 times before I shot it and it cycled heavy field loads and light target loads perfectly.

Another vote here for Tri star, I have a raptor field as my guest shot gun in 20 and it has never missed a beat. Shoulders well for smaller folk, and use it for busting clays all the time.

My wife did a Benelli ethos in 20 and hated the thing so much she traded it in on a weatherby sa08. Yup from a thousand $$+ shotgun to a $500 and she could not be more happy. She hated everything about the benelli.

Me like others have an old 1100 in 20 and that is what I bust clays with, I really enjoy an auto 5 16g, it seems like I just can't miss with that but shells are a bit hard to find with that.

I keep thinking I should reload shotgun shells, but really don't want to start yet another thing.

This.

The 1100 is a soft shooter. In 20 gauge, it is a sweet gun.

I went with the Mossberg SA-20, (75789) blue with Turkish walnut. I just got it, so I can't comment on it. I can say that I did a lot of research before selecting this model. it looks and handles as well as I had hoped.

I have a Remington 1100 in 12-guge, 1972-year model, but as I get longer in the tooth, I hope the lighter Mossberg satisfies my needs.

I just picked up a Franchi Affinity 3 20 gauge at Reed's gun fair last weekend for $700. Great little gun! It didn't want to run the light loads at first but a box of heavy loads fixed that. Very light and quick handling. Shoulder's perfectly for me without playing around with any of the included shims. It'll be my upland grouse and backup pheasant gun.
