Hello, I am interested in a new 22 rifle from one of the new producers (Sig, Ruger, Colt etc) Which new 22 semi auto is the best of the bunch?

The only one I've used is the S&W M&P 15/22. A shooting buddy has one and it's been great for probably 15K rounds in the last year. I'd recommend it.

The Ruger is a prettified 10/22. I love all things Sig, but have no real information, sorry. Colt was getting bad reviews, don't know if they've fixed their issues or not.

I hear nothing but complaining about the Colt/Umarex guns. Folks seem to like the S&W 15-22 but not its light weight, its composite construction or its proprietary magazines. The only one I hear nothing but positive about is the SIG 522. They are very close to their centerfire cousin, feature a machined aluminum receiver and utilize Black Dog magazines. It is the only one I'd consider.

Then there are also 10/22 derivatives....

lightweight!

Yes - the SW 15-22 IS a lightweight, so it doesn't FEEL like a real M4. However, it functions exactly like one (in semi) and the trigger group is the same deal. The mags are inexpensive (saw them for $18 at the latest show). Also, the lightweight actually helps in this respect - the recoil pop you get is similar to the real M4 shooting 5.56. At least it feels that way to me - I've fired a few M16A1s in my time.

It is a good gun!

Sig; I have looked at, read about, and shot, all of the 22/ar types. Nothing comes close to the sig.
1 more thing ajc sportshop in Clute texas, was selling these bran new for 399 each, came to 432 with tax. you may wanna call them to get one, that is about 100 bucks cheaper than everyone else, once you add tax.

Also Craig dude above is very right; you put these up next to the big boy sig in 556, and you can nery tell the diff; and if you can get the 22 or 556 with the matching sig made mini red dot, it is so much the ultra cool combination...

"I am saving loose change to buy a Spike's Tactical upper" Yeah that. I have several "tactical" .22s, one built from a ruger, and still see a need for the upper for training purposes.
