I want a .40 S&W carbine. Not for any serious use, but pistol carbines are tons of fun and there is a local range that requires pistol carbines for their 3-gun match.

I also want it to use Glock magazines. I'm not a fan of Glocks, but I am forced to use them for work, so I have a ton of 22, 23, and 27 magazines always lying around. And ammo is more or less free :)

So I have narrowed down my choices to the Just Right Carbine, the Kel-tec Sub2000, and the Olympic K40GL, which is hardly in the running because it costs 2-3 times the others, and its a lot to justify for a toy.

Simplicity and reliability are my primary criteria. It also must be reasonably accurate. I like to tinker with my guns, so aftermarket parts or do-it-yourself upgrades are a plus.

So which one is right for me?

It isn't one of your choices but the Ruger PC4 is a very robust and reliable 40 cal rifle. the don't make them anymore but you can buy a used one for 500 or so . they use standard ruger mags which are only 10 to 20 bucks each. Iv'e had one for several years. I suggest you do some research and expand your choices.

I have been researching this for about a year or so. I am unaware of any other 40 carbines which take Glock magazines. If anyone knows of one that I am missing I would love to know.

Just food for thought, but what about 9mm?

I picked up a slightly enjoyed Marlin Camp Carbine in 9mm this winter, put an old red dot sight on it and man is it fun to shoot. Reasonably accurate too.

New ammo can be had for under $10.00 a box, so it isn't expensive to shoot and it uses S&W 5900 magazines.

Spence is right though, that little Ruger PC4 is a nifty carbine too.

Of those three I'd go with the JR. I've shot both a Sub2K and a JR that belong to my shooting buddies. The JR is simply a whole lot more approchable when you're looking at using it in matches.

If Thureon Defense has their carbine available in Glock mag versions that is the other way I'd go. The TD gun is a little more trim looking. Like it was directly designed as a pistol caliber carbine instead of trying to look like an AR.

Depending on what you want to spend, you can build a .40 S&W AR. But it won't be cheap.

You would need a DDLES lower (Uses glock mags) and a semi custom upper. RMW Extreme makes .40 S&W uppers.

I've ben running Pistol Caliber Carbines in the Mi3gun matches for 3 years now. The PCC class is a hoot to shoot.

KelTec sub 2k. uses glock 22 mags and is a fun gun. I have about 1200 rounds thru mine and never a problem.

Thureon defense looks pretty good and the price isn't too bad. Availability seems pretty crappy though. I've never heard of them until now, anybody have hands on experience with them?

I picked up an older Olympic LE marked .40S&W AR that uses modified Glock 22 mags (not a difficult modification and they'll still work in your Glock afterwards) from JG Sales for about $750 Give them a call, I saw them in a flier again recently.

Nothing better for the tinkerer that the AR :) Most stratifying thump when those 180gr slugs hit the backstop.
