There is no reason a gun should NOT function the same with steel cased ammo as brass, and if one DOES have trouble then it's not working correctly.
It's my opinion that we should hold these gun makers accountable for selling rifles that won't shoot this type of ammo, especially today when ammo is harder to get.
Ammo meeting the SAAMI or NATO specs should work in a gun that claims to shoot SAAMI or NATO ammo, or the gun needs to be sent back.
These threads pop up all the time and no one has ever shown a firearm design that just WON'T shoot steel case ammo reliably. One here, one there, but never an entire line of a specific model. They usually end up in a religious "AK v AR" thing....
So, the answer to the question "What gun shoots steel cased ammo reliably" should be "All of them". I wasn't trying to be funny.
I had an idea that I don't want to try with my Kel-Tec PLR-16. Has anyone used spray-on moly on the cases to see if it minimizes the problem of weak cycling? In my own warped logic, it should significantly reduce the friction resulting in more forceful cycling and reduced stress on the extractor????
