If you can afford it, go with a Bulgarian. Otherwise a Yugoslavian M70 is a pretty good buy. If you are on a budget, get the Romanian. If it's a SAR you should be okay, but if it's a Romanian WASR, check for canted front sight or canted gas block and check to see how bad the mag wobble is.

Hungarian. I like their setups. Very fine work with handgaurd setups that'll never catch on fire no matter how many rounds you put downrange.

I have chinese, bulgarian, hungarian, romanian, and russian. In order of quality from my experience, I'd say:

Hungarian, Bulgarian, Russian, Chinese, and Romanian.

I still wouldn't feel bad one bit about having a romanian go-to rifle either as my shtf gun, either.

Russian is the best. Second place is Chinese Type 56. I can say this with practical combat experience. They dont heat up as fast the ones you listed. Especially when you fire on select fire mode heating up is a big issue. Thus, double body Russian 1975 or 1977 model is the best.

I love my Romanian G but voted Bulgarian because I didn't want to include the WASR!

I have hungarian AMD. Only problem with is its short barrel that reduces the range. Plus its not double body, and you cannt fit 75 drum while butt folded.

didnt vote my only experiance is the romanian wasr 3 that i bought a couple weeks ago....stay the hell away from them...mine actually has the wrong caliber stamped on the reciever...taking it back tommorrow

I understand that some folks are having issues with the recent Arsenal offering, what do they call it... SLR107? Something about the barrels being drilled off center. I know that they had issues with the SLR106 series, with feeding and canted sights.

Here anymore, I don't know that it is the best choice.

If you can really examine one, I would suggest looking hard at the Yugos. If the gas block is not terribly pitted, and the mechanicals look to be in good nick, and the top cover not rusty, one of them might be a really good choice. I know that the one I owned was a good shooter. Just that the gas block on mine was horribly corroded, something I just couldn't get around.

So I sold it.

But it would hit detergent and gallon water bottles at 300 with alarming regularity.

Wrong caliber? Really? What exactly happened? What caliber is it/what were you expecting?

Russian.. you need to find a Saiga with dimples + Y receiver.. it's a Russian milspec receiver, then find a good converter and have it converted to look like a 100 series... that's as close to Russian you'll get...

You could never have enough of a good thing. Bulgarians,Romys are my choices. either they were on sale. or, were on the rack ready to take home from a shop down the road.
