Which AR rifle for first time AR buyer?

Rob at M4 rags on the Bushmaster, but I have never heard a single complaint. I'm personally on my second, No FTF's, no issues. I use to be in LE sales and put Bushmaster in several departments with no issues (we also sold Colt and HK). As far as other brands I know a large local department that just went with DPMS and they like them (one of the SWAT team members is a fishing buddy). From what I've seen AR's are pretty loosy goosy anyway, and yet my Bushy 20" gives me solid 1" groups. As long as you've got a well made chrome lined barrel, they're pretty simple affairs. I'd just look for the best deal and go with it.

I have never had a problem with either of my Bushmasters, and thus feel like I can recommend them. That being said, I have yet to really be able to find a quantifiable difference between my Bushmaster, a DPMS, a Rock River or any of the other "major" AR manufacturers. They all seem to function well, they all seem to operate about the same, they are all pretty accurate, and since I have no immediate plans to start blowing 10k rounds of ammo downrange per year, I dismiss the arguments about how brand A is superior to Brand B based on torture tests. Bushmaster makes exactly what I wanted in an AR, it functions like a champ, and so I am perfectly happy with it.
