A Colt lw Commander until my Defender is properly broken in. 45acp in a 1911 platform is very easy to manage and very accurate for me. Wish I would have tried it sooner than I did. I also carry a Ruger .357 at times, or even a 38 snubby with +P ammo when the occassion necessitates.

I like the 40s. Powerful and easy to conceal. Not that I don't have and like both 45s and 9mms. I just think the 40 is the best as far as power, capacity, and concealablity are concerned. I have seen the 40 at work in real life situations and it works just fine (not that the 45 and 9mm don't, for the most part they work fine too). But It think the 40 combines the best into a really good self defense package.

I think you'll find alot of people love the .45 ACP and hate the 9mm for the same reasons that they love football and hate soccer. There is no more "American" caliber than the .45ACP.

That and to us Americans, bigger is always better.

Remember,

"There is only one God, and John Moses Browning is his armorer."

I never thought of it like that. Makes sense, however I dont watch football. Although I do love the sound of a smallblock with open headers at 6000rpm, a honda doing the same thing just irritates me.

Well thats american MUSCLE being compared to a rice grinder.. Not to say that civics are a bad car, their really not, and cheap to tune up, a few hundred $ and you can get quite a bit of power out of them... what annoys me is the kids that put a fart can and a wing on it and think its high performance...

as far as the poll goes... .45ACP for me =)

cars & guns..hmmm...ok...the 9mm..fast, sleek..a bmw comes to mind..but its not the rumble & pop of american muscle..the 300+hp v8...it may not be as fast as some of the exoticts..and it doesn't have to be..it's history speaks for itself and doesn't have to jump the line with a kid in a riced out honda prelude

if someone is coming in my home uninvited...they meet the .45

.45 ACP. Not because I think its significantly more efffective than the other rounds, but because I get the best combination of accuracy and controllability. The .40 I find to be too snappy and get mediocre grouping, never tried a .357 Sig, and the 9mm I generally cannot group well. The .45 has given me the best combo of controllability and accuracy.

.45ACP is my preference, but I usually carry .40S&W (Kahr PM40) or .357 mag (S&W SC360 J-frame) as the best size/weight/power trade-off. This could change once I see a Kahr P45 of if they come out with a PM45 down the road.

Kimber Ultra Carry is my first choice when I can hide it.

9mm cause...

It's what comes out of my 6906. I'm finding myself looking at 45's ALOT lately and I totally get the bigger hole theory. Just haven't taken the leap yet.

I voted .45 because that's what my preferred firearm is most widely available in. If 1911's were 9mm or .40 guns typically, my choice would still be the 1911 in whatever caliber.

The 1911 platform is NO reason to get a .45. Low capacity is teh lose.

.45 has good balistics, but they aren't that great when compared to .40 and the extra bullets it gives you. Start looking at 10mm (which wasn't included) and you start to see the problems with .45

BTW, Colt made a 1911 in 10mm, so now you .45 guys have no excuse to stick with such an outdated round.

You mean other than the fact that 90% (give or take) of the 1911s in circulation are chambered in .45?

And most of them share the same flaw. Lack of capacity.
Not worth it.

And why would you buy a P220 when you can fit more rounds into a P226 :scrutiny:

Because I can. :D

I can follow my logic. :neener:

And the P220 is purtier. Ain't freedom grand ;) ?

If I need more than 8 shots before a reload, it is so far into UTYAIA time that the extra rounds are superfluous.
