I'm getting ready to use some Bass Pro reward points and I'm thinking about buying a case tumbler/vibrater. They carry machines from Hornady, RCBS, and Lyman and I have no idea where to start. When you look at the reviews every one has people saying how loud it is, and others who claim it is quiet. I'm curious to hear what everyone here has to say about the tumblers you use.

The available choices are:

RCBS $79.99
Hornady M-2 $69.99
Lyman turbo 1200 pro $49.97
Lyman twin turbo $67.99
Lyman1200 auto-flo $84.99
Lyman 2500 pro magnum turbo $89.99

Look at the Berry Mfg tumbler. Quiet, reasonably priced. Cabela's is made by Berry and they have a good warranty.

They all shake, rattle and roll. Choose the color you like the best.

This.

I have one of these, topped with a Lyman ProFlo bowl set, that I have probably used to tumble better than 50K cases. In fact, I've worn out the Lyman bowl but the base motor assembly just keeps on ticking.

I used this unit to replace a Lyman unit that had finally died. One of the things not obvious about many tumblers is the lack of an inline on/off switch; the Lyman required that I unplug it to stop it.

I didn't vote because i don't have whats listed. i have a Frankford arsenal .
My recommendation is to get the very largest one possible. they never hold what the spec's say and i hate doing small batches and running it all the time.
bigger is better IMHO.

I have heard good things about the Berry's unit also

Since I tumble A LOT of brass I have purchased and use the Lyman 2500. It is great, and I have probably cleaned about 100K pieces of brass with it and no problems. In fact I have ordered another one and it should be here any day. The large capacity and quick cleaning are a big plus for me.

Berry's, Cabela's Model 400, Grafs 400, all the same, Berry's make them all U.S. made except for the motor as no U.S. mfg. makes a stock motor as Berry requires. Price is very reasonable and warrenty is super.

Well, noise doesn't bother me much.
My Dillon is pretty loud too just setting on the bare floor.

But I run my tumbler in the basement setting on a 1/2" rubber mat.
Can't hear it upstairs, so I put a lamp timer on it so I don't leave it running for days on end.

I have the Lyman twin turbo... have been very happy with it. Ignore Midway reviews than complain about dust coming out of the lid; if you simply put the (included) solid lid on TOP of the filtering lid - problem solved.

Imported product with only a 1 year warrenty!

U.S.A. made except for the motor.

Warrenty? 3 years on the motor-----Forever for the rest

Worth the extra $20.00 bucks IMO, if for no other reason than to support our folks here at home!

Quite a few people like the Berry's, if only they made one for Bass Pro like they do for Cabella's. Unfortunately I'm restricted to using Bass Pro reward points. I think out of the tumblers offered by BPS, I'm leaning towards the Lyman. I'm curious if those who have the twin turbo, does the second smaller bowl get used? I'm sure that I'll probably tumble everything in sight when I finally buy one. After the initial tumblefest, future sessions will either be 200-300 pistol or 50-100 rifle cases.

I'd probably buy a $29.99 tumbler from Midway
I don't own any of the tumblers listed so I can't comment on them but I do own the FA tumbler rcmodel mentioned and Cabela's tumbler (Berry's 400). Both work well but Cabela's has greater capacity (about 60% more) with quieter and more powerful motor along with an on/off switch in the longer power cord.

Berry's tumbler sells for $50 but $30 is a great price for the FA tumbler. If you don't need the capacity, it should serve you well.

And just like the same poll you posted in Castbooits, Dillon isn't included, so you don't get my vote.

I don't see much overlap with users at both sites and I respect the opinions from the users at both places. I have no doubt that Dillon makes a superior product, but unfortunately it's not an option for me. I don't have the luxury of saving a little more and buying a better product. If I didn't have the BPS reward credit card I wouldn't be buying anything. I became disabled due to a botched back surgery three years ago, and I'm trying to put my son through college. I buy food and school books on credit and in return I get to buy myself something a couple of times a year. I'll probably get the cheaper Lyman 1200 and use the difference on a set of reloading dies.

Thanks Hondo, that's the type of feedback that I was hoping to hear. Looking at the results here and on castboolits, Lyman is used by more people than RCBS and Hornady combined.

I have a Lyman1200 auto-flo $84.99

but I voted for a Lyman 2500 pro magnum turbo $89.99

I haven't had any trouble out of my 1200 auto-flo but there are times I could use a bit more room.

I can't remember every hearing someone wish for a smaller tumbler either?

That's my take anyway.

I can't make a comparison but I will recommend the Hornady M-2. Does a good job and is pretty quiet about it.

rc, where did you get the $29.99 price tag for the Midway tumbler? I see a $52.99 price at the link you posted.

I've used the small bowl here and there... if i'm tumbling 30 rds of pistol brass, it takes less time (fill, empty, sort) than using the large bowl. I don't know if either bowl cleans faster.

I couldn't vote either. I'm another voting for the Berry's/Cabela's 400 tumbler. I understand you want to use up your Bass Pro rewards points but I would buy something else with those points and buy a Cabela's/Berry's 400 tumbler instead.

If you absolutely must buy from Bass Pro Shop I would think you could do worse than buying a Lyman Turbo 1200 Pro tumbler. I wouldn't waste the money on the Twin Turbo tumbler. IMO you don't need a smaller tub when the 1200 tub will do the same job even with small batches of brass. The $20 is better in your pocket...
