Which cheap gun/ammo combo has the highest fun factor?

+1 on the mosin nagant with the short barrel. My GOD is it a BOOMER with albanian surplus, loudest gun I have ever shot, other than a sawn off shotgun, and it was probably louder than that. The ammo is SOOOOOOO cheap, and plentiful. I dont know how long it's going to be around so I'm stocking up now....

I gotta go with the 10/22, as well. I can shoot mine for hours, little or no fatigue factor. Plus, when I've had a particularly bad shooting session with my larger caliber rifles, I regain some confidence with a series of groupings with the 10/22 that are usually "tighter than a bulls ass in fly country". :D

dont forget the mauser

buy a vg+ mauser from classicarms.us for 109... no matching numbers but gun shoots just fine.

then buy 50s yugo surplus. from sportsmansguide.com it's 90$ for 900. 10$ shipping with the coupon they give you after every order (or you can use the one some website has that is good for the whole year).

so you pay about 12c a round. the bonus to the 8mm (and dont get me wrong the x54r M39 is my favorite rifle) and yugo m48 or m24/47 is that you get to shoot ammo that was made especially for the gun you are firing. not easy to do with milsurps, at least not cheaply.

you can also accessorize it by buying a bayonet, using a JMI k98 bipod, or converting the lug to a harris bipod mount using an JRHI lug converter.

So. . 127 (with shipping) + 100 (ammo) = 227 for plenty of big bore kick and boom.

$100 budget for fun

used Marlin 60 .22LR - $60
blister pack 4x15 Tasco scope - $5
3500 rounds of ammo - $35

Scope is optional...spend money on more ammo, but the cheap scope on the plinking gun made it a lot of fun.

Any of the Mosin-Nagants- using the short-range ammo sold by Century
Arms. It has spectacular effect on water filled plastic bottles; has a
muzzle velocity of 3400 fps; and has almost no recoil. Accuracy is
very good out to 100 yards; and it won't travel much more than 500
yards. Corrosive, so clean accordingly.

I gotta say the Marlin 60 with some bulk 22lr ammo will pretty much keep you busy for most of a day and is as cheap as it gets...and you still get to practice proper breathing, trigger control, etc. ;)
