I want a cowboy type 12 guage coach gun, and have narrowed it down to a Remington SPR-220 or a Cimmaron. I believe the Remington is Russian made and the Cimmaron is Italian Uberti. Any difference between the 2 guns? I'm leaning toward the Remington because it looks like it has some engravings on it. I've only seen pictures of both on the internet. What do y'all think? Oh, also I want exposed working hammers so the Stoeger is out, along with the Chinese imports, I'm sick of everything in the U.S.A. made in China!

Well, make something then :D

Maybe you could make a good-quality coach gun. Of course you'd have to deal with customers who want Parker quality for Mossberg prices, BATF regulations, and high taxes. But hey, the taxes would be no problem because you would probably go bankrupt. So go for it :D

Anyhow, no one is forcing you to buy Chinese stuff... and it isn't the Chinese that are printing trillions of dollars and giving them to their bankster friends :uhoh:

OUt of everything written by the OP, that's the only thing you saw? Why post if all you're going to do is ridicule them? Wouldn't that be considered a TROLL .

Wow! I sure didn't mean to start a political thread here. I just wanted some advise on a shotgun purchase. I'm sorry if I offended anybody by wanting to buy something other than Chinese. I own 13 guns and other than 1 made in Germany (C96 Broomhandle) , 1 from Italy (1851 Navy) , and 2 from Croatia (XDms) the rest are all U.S.A. If a U.S. company made a coach gun, I would buy it over an import. I'm proud to be and buy American whenever possible. I just wanted some input on a freakin' shotgun!

One of the best double barrel values on the market right now is the Charles Daley. Several knowledgable people I shoot Cowboy Action with have switched over to the Charles Daley and have had zero problems with them, and the quality is excellent.

If I wasn't a dyed in the wool 1897 Winchester shooter, I'd probably have a Daley.

Hope this helps.

Yeah deff don't go with the chinese imports. Mine works great but after 15 rounds of just birdshot the forend is pretty loose, it won't pop off or anything but it jiggles like no other.

*** was the point of this?

For the OP, like ReloaderFred said, can't go wrong with the Charles Daly. I currently got a spanish coachgun and i'm not very fond of it. I'm with you, I'd prefer a USA made.

Good luck!

Look around for a Stevens 311. Get it chopped and threaded for choke tubes. Pretty good way to get a US made sXs 12gage for the least amount of money.

I have a Russian made Remington 220F Spartan that I really like. The model I have has screw-in chokes. The Cimarron 1878 Coach Gun has a very good reputation, though it has fixed chokes and it is made in China.

They also made a short barreled version, the 311R.

I'll say this only because I own one.

Go with the Spartan. They're tough as nails and have a chrome-lined barrel (I believe). Mine has the working exposed hammers, which is more expensive. The boxlocks are FAR cheaper(in price). My gunsmith put a Limbsaver on mine and said that those Spartans are built for abuse. He was really impressed with it. And he's no fly by night guy. He's not cheap, but does quality work. Kinda plain, but very serviceable. Most come with changeable chokes.

Stoeger guns are made in Brazil and are a good firearm for the money. outdare offered a link so you can see the various models offered.

Thanks for all the input, it helped a lot. I odered the Remington spr 220 with the exposed hammers today. It's supposed to be here Thursday. It was the chokes that did it. The Cimmaron looked good too, but the Remmy seems more versatile. The Charles Daly was twice the price, so to keep my wife from using it on me, I went for the Remington at $480.00.;)

You'll be glad you did.

You might find yourself adding a recoil pad to that promptly. It's a light firearm and kicks pretty hard. Mine came with a steel buttplate which left the prettiest color bruises. The first cleaning is fun also. It'll come dripping with preserving oil.

I picked up my SPR220F today. Kevin was right about the oil bath they gave it. The inside of the barrels were full of oil and cardboard fuzz. It snapped together easily and feels great. Now I need to take it to the range to get my pretty bruises.;)

Glad you like your new shotgun. If you get the itch to try others, I've grown very fond of my Rossi coach gun(exposed hammers) made in Brazil. Does everything I ask of it when it comes to throwing hot Lead. Comes with damned fine looking Brazilian hardwood stocks too.
You might want to give'em a looksee.
Good luck with the new coach! Let's hear how it shoots for ya when you get the chance, okay?:)
