Hello all:

I am wanting a CZ-75 real bad, even starting to check around for availablity and prices, but am unsure of which finish to get.

I really like the looks of the parkerized ones, especially with a nice set of wooden grips, however, this does not appear to be a presently offered option. Unless the polycoated ones are parkerized underneath, and the polycoat could be chemically removed.

I also like the look of the satin nickel ones, but wonder how durable they are? And this brings me to consider stainless steel, which from a corrosion standpoint, I really like. Are the barrels also stainless? And how do the stainless ones compare to the carbon steel guns as far as wear and mechanical durability? A also noticed the stainless finish is advertized as "polished". I wonder if just how bright this is, and if the finish needs to be toned down a bit with a fine bead blasting?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mine is in the black Polycoat (75BD) or whatever they call it. It's holding up fine. I will be the first ot admit it isn't glamorous by any means, but it seem fairly durable. I thought the stainless was overpriced as options go. Satin nickel looks nice, but I'm not sure how durable it is. Not sure about the barrel being stainless in the stainless model. I know mine isn't. As for durability of stainless vs. carbon steel, there might be a theoretical difference, but I wouldn't worry about it.
I own several stainless guns (non-CZ), but I actually prefer blued guns when the option is available. But then I've been told that I'm a little off sometimes.

I narrowed my choice down to the stainless steel versions as I didn't ever intend to have to refinish the gun ever. The 75 S.S. comes in matte and high polished versions to make it more complicated.
The general consensus is if you don't like fingerprints on your shiny gun then go with the matte. I don't mind the fingerprints and I believed it would be easier to clean a smoother surface rather than the
matte, so I went with the polished. The polishing is almost mirror but not quite there. I figured when I get bored one day, I would pull out a wheel and some compound and make it totally mirror. If you plan
on bead blasting it, I'd just go matte and be done with it. The barrels are hammer forged and heat treated and not stainless. I have never read or heard of any difference in wear on S.S. versus any of the other
finishes. I did huge amounts of researching on http://www.czforumsite.info/index.php and that really is the place to go for specific CZ questions.

OK, good to know the stainless comes in matt. The stainless does seem a bit overpriced compared to the other finishes.

It's interesting that stainless autos often have non stainless barrels. I have a stainless springfield compact, the barrel is a 2 part barrel. The front looks like it's hard chromed, and the rear is conventional steel. I found this out when I discovered a rusty thumb print on top of the hood, where I had pushed down on it several weeks prior, checking vetitcal play. I had always thought it was stainless, guess not.

I love the look of the high polish. The great thing about finger prints, is they come right off. You can always shoot with gloves on as well.
