Which electronic ear muffs are best? Peltor? Pro-Ears? Other?

I have Peltor Tactical 6-5's ........ so not quite what you ask about. Anyways, they do pretty well .. very rapid response and for most situations adequate. If under cover with .308 etc .. then extra ear inserts useful underneath those.

Buddy of mine has same and got his almost 1/2 price thru Botak not so long ago. Paid a bit dear for mine.

Biggest complaint is ease with which knobs get turned on when they are in range bag ... and so discharge batts! I would not be without them now and in particular when I am doing basic Pistol courses - much easier to hear students.

I have a pair of peltor 7s and ProMag Dimension 1's. Both are good, the peltor's are a little less expensive. Both have roughly the same NRR, but I always wear ear plugs + the muffs for max protection, since I do most of my shooting at the indoor range. You can still hear well when double plugged.

Peltor's - Good, they do "clip". Its only a problem if there is continuous shooting and you're trying to hear someone speak, then it cuts out a lot. If you're going hunting, then it shouldn't be a problem. They are comfortable and they do amplify sounds.

ProMag's - they "attenuate" the sound so the volume is automatically turned down but you can still hear (albeit at a reduced level). I like using these at the indoor range since you can still hear the range officer, etc. I use the ProMags all the time unless I take a newbie to the range, then I give them the ProMags (safety reasons). These cost about $50-60 more but I like'm.

I've also had the batteries discharge too. The little foam covers over the microphones sometimes get knocked off.

I have a Peltor "Tactical 7 Classic" muff http://www.probuy.net/products/TACTICAL7.html. I use them primarily for when I have range duty at my club, so ability to converse with the shooters on the line is important to me. I find they work great and don't notice the clipping that Tman mentioned (different model?).

My wife has the 6 model and they clip.

My favorites are Peltor Comtacs. They are slimmer than most which helps when rifle shooting. They also have accesories like microphones to make them a communication headset. On top of that they are waterproof.

What I usually do is wear plugs (the 31 dB NRR ones), then put the Peltors atop them and turn up the volume to overcome the plugs. That way, amplified sounds will be heard (conversation, etc) and the loud noises are double-muffed.

Have any of you had a problem with sweat ruining your electronics??

I had a pair of Wal Mart Remingtons which worked great for $100. But after a few long hikes high in the Rockies the sweat from my head corroded the electronics and ruined one side.
