Which Glock for the collection?

Which .40S&W model was more widely used for LE?

In law enforcement its most likely the Glock model 22, but I imagine that the Glock 23 isn't too far behind. The 23, much like the 19, is probably more popular among civilians due to it's relatively compact size.

I have no hard data on this, it is just an educated guess.

I believe the 22 is # 1. I may be wrong, but it may be the most common LEO sidearm in general. That could be Glock propaganda bouncing around in my head.....

I'm sure someone will come along and tell me I'm wrong, an idiot and not worthy to breath air.. LOL!

Case in point,

My best friend works with our local PD in their NET team. (Neighborhood Enhancement Team) They work (saturate) high crime areas, serve warrants, target gangs, etc.. Their uniformed police officers carry department mandated Glock 22's. Some smaller officers carry Glock 23's. He said several plain clothes (detectives??) police officers carry the Glock 23 too. I wouldn't know, my public service is limited to putting out fires. You light em, we fight em!

But yeah, I see more model 22's on them and our state police than I see the compact 23.

+1 on the Gen1 Glock 17.
Really it depends on what impresses you.

The Glock 19 is THE Glock. The most useful and well rounded of the bunch.
The G23 is the same only with more power.
The G17 is the fullsize 9mm benchmark of relability.
The G34 is the ultimate range IPDA gun.

The G20 is the most powerful sweetest shooting auto you can get!
The G21 is the wimpy version of the 20 but it's in Gods caliber of choice.

Thanks guys. I guess there really is no easy answers to these kinds of questions among gun guys. :p

I think I'll go with a G17 for now and maybe a G22 or G23 later. If I wanted it for serious gun, the G23 would probably be my choice.

The G17 was the first

and therefore it might be best from a "collector" standpoint. The G-19/23/32 may well be the perfect combination of size/weight/firepower. I have, and carry, a G23 and a 32.

I think for collections sake get a Glock 17 first gen with police markings. THAT is a famous Glock. they have (had) some at Summit Gun Broker.

G17 is a good choice! That is really easy to say when there are no bad choices though. I hope that you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. I have and have had different types of handguns and appreciate their difference in design, but from a purely functional standpoint, the Glock design, and shape work the best for ME. Congratulations on a well made, reliable handgun! (don't enter it in any beauty pageants and you'll do fine!)

imo, if you're just collecting, then bea purist and get the G17. But now if you're wanting a gun with punch too, get the G22 or G35. I love the long barrels for the increased accuracy (for me) that it affords.

I'm in the same boat, never owned a Glock. Shot a 19c, 26, and a 36. So I have been shooting .45acp 90% of the time recently and decided to sell my 9mm xDm. I wanted a full-size, hi-cap polymer in .45 that would mainly be a house gun. It was a toss up between the FNP 45 or Glock 21SF and no one had the FN! So I bought one off of a forum member and eagerly await it's arrival as my first GLOCK. :)

If I like it, then down the road I'd love a Glock 20 and Colt Delta Elite. And if I ever go back to 9mm, a 17 is an obvious choice.

I prefer the G34, the G17's big brother, it's my only Glock. Thought about the G20 but I can't afford to feed it. Was thinking about a G19 but the CZ PCR perverted me...I'm still a pervert. Maybe someday, maybe not, I've got my sights on an STI custom 1911 now.
