What Pistol For My Collection?

I don't know about the OP but I have bought various pistols for various carry/defense scenarios. I have the fat double stack poly, the all steel 1911, the pocket rocket .380 and the bedside revolver angles covered.

My next sidearm will be a single stack 9mm, as slim as I can find.

The Glock 19 is a great choice. I also like the Ruger SR9c and the CZ P-01 for range use, HD, and CCW. Slightly larger in overall size I would consider the Browning Hi-Power, CZ 75, Glock 17, and the SIG P229 to be excellent choices as well.

I'd give a serious look at a Smith Model 6906. Though now discontinued, these superbly accurate and well-built compact pistols can still be found rather readily at gun shows, pawn shops and on the net for relatively affordable prices ($400.00 or so for ones in very good condition).

my generic one-size-fits-all suggestion for what 2 guns someone should own would be a G19 for carry/nightstand and a Mossy 590 in the closet

That's superb advice. Add a quality semiauto defensive rifle to that line-up, and you'd have about all you'd ever need.
