Which gun companies might move?

If the government is handing out my taxpayer dollars to entice a for profit business, and it's NOT socialism, what is it?

Well hopefully they do it on the basis of making an investment in a business, an investment that will pay off in increased tax revenues that more than offset the incentives and earning a return on that investment for the taxpayers. Nothing more Capitalist than that. Sadly, most local governments aren't very good at those kinds of negotiations.

Yup, Remington is moving to Huntsville and bringing many of it's subsidiary companies with. Creedmoor Sports (as in 6.5creedmoor) has also moved to Alabama. With the gun manufacturers that have already came to AL, the ones that have started in AL (2 Vets Arms, Red Dot Arms, Meredith Rifles etc) and those with property bought and planning the move to AL the state of AL is shaping up to look like the MI of the firearms industry. Remington isn't bringing it all to Huntsville though. The NY factory will remain open and an office in the Carolina's but the rest of it's manufacturing and and subsidiaries is coming to The Rocket City. With NASA, RSA and Remington Arms all based within a couple miles of each other Huntsville,AL will be the most well defended city in America :D

I hope that RRA, Springfield, DSA & Armalite leave Illinois if only to hasten that state's implosion.
Well thanks Krusty 783, I'd rather that Illinois didn't implode. We can use all the manufacturers that we can get to stay here, maybe if we get a governor like Wisconsin's Scott Walker we can stop the downward spiral this state is in.

Having gun manufacturers here is one reason for some legislators to not support crappy gun laws. Of course to some it will make no difference, as they will be happy to see them go.

Wrong.

Remington is moving between 80 and 100 jobs out of 1,500 from Ilion, NY to AL.

Those that have thought a bit deeper on this issue would realize that there isn't even enough room in the new Huntsville operation to hold what's already located in Ilion, not to mention the other facilities that are scheduled to be moved into Huntsville.

+100...

Remington is opening a plant in Huntsville, it's far from moving out of Ilion. At the most they will consolidate the AR15 production of Bushmaster, DPMS, and LAR there, as those plants are in different states and the duplication of effort raises costs.

In that regard, it's not Ilion taking a hit, it's DPMS and LAR Grizzly shutting down and moving.

Simple fact finding and reading comprehension are two skills that seem to be in short supply on this subject. There's a lot of vindictiveness behind the rumors, when in reality no business makes that kind of decision without some due diligence in cost accounting behind it.

Very few plants are actually getting shut down, what has happened is that the decision makers finally looked at the money getting spent and saw some of it could be profit in the long run. There's no money to make in political gestures by interrupting an assembly line or profit stream just to make a point.

If you are a DPMS, LAR, AAC, or other employee who's losing your job, no doubt you have a different view of the situation. In terms of the enormous downsizing and outsourcing of jobs overseas in the last 20 years, I don't see why concerned conservatives would openly embrace it with no reservations.

Would a different headline make it more plain? "Gun makers lay off employees in anti gun states as they shift production to cut payroll costs." Please explain how you support that.

Some just want to thumb their noses at a few liberal politicians, but those losing their jobs aren't volunteering for the sacrifice. Like it or not, it's still business as usual.

Thanks for your insight!
