Best for you will have to be decided by you using a little criteria that only you can produce . (did I say "you" enough ?)
If your wanting a carry gun for concealed the most popular gravitate towards smaller lighter auto's in 9mm . A whole lot of good choices and everybody has their own favorite based on what fits them . Look and handle as many as you can - pay attention to both the quality and the way the gun handles for you. Decide wether a DA only , or SA/DA is what you want, and pay attention to the ergonomics and how the controls fit you (slide release- safety - etc. )
Your not limited to 9mm either - there are compact guns in .40S&W , .45 auto, etc. To carry wether it be concealed or otherwise makes a difference , as does the method of carry. When you have your choices narrowed to two or three - come back on just to get a read on wether others have had good luck with the type of firearm your considering.

really need a little more info on what you want, and what you want to achieve with the pistol, before we start blasting off answers. Because what will happen is that we will give answers, and then the original poster will be like no no i forgot to mention that I don't want that, and then you will get more answers, and it will go on and on for no telling how long. and we will get no where. please set some requirements. price, capacity, dao, da/sa ,safety or no etc.
