After budgeting for the holidays I have a little toy money left over. I've been eying a Henry .22 for a while so this seems like the perfect time.

Here are the two specific models in considering:

1: Henry H001. The basic model which my local shop has on the rack for $279.

2: Henry H001T. Slightly bigger and heavier with the octagon barrel. Buds will ship for $331.

The intended use would be off-hand plinking and training. Given this would it be worth the money to get the upgraded rifle? Also, I'm a lefty so would I have any issues using either of these rifles?

My instinct would be to spend the few extra bucks and buy the H001T vs the basic H001..

For roughly $50.00 you are upgrading, and I should think the octagon barrel would be a neat feature.

The octagon barrel won't add a dab of accuracy to the Henry, (the extra weight might) but it will add a neat appearance, and it's seldom you see anyone who doesn't prefer the octagon barrel over the round one given a choice.

Just personal opinion..

Best Wishes,

Jesse

P.S. I'm a lefty also, and if you are like me you've been "adjusting" to shooting a "right handed" designed rifle all of your life, so I don't think you'll have any problem with the Henry.. FWIW I shoot my Marlin 39A a lot, it's similar to the Henry, and shooting as a lefty, no problems..

I would go for the upgraded version too. The octagon barrel looks really neat :)
The only safety (on the golden boy anyway) is the hammer at half-cock, so that shouldn't make a difference for being right or left handed. I can't think of anything else that would make it inconvenient for leftys either.

Which sights do you prefer?

I think the Octagon has "semi buckhorn" sights and the basic model has more basic but simple and serviceable sights.
Both have a built in rail on the receiver cover, optics look goofy on a lever gun but the rail on mine works fine.

Personally, the Lever Carbine was the one that made me smile biggest, I'm pretty happy with it and it is the second-most shot long gun in the cabinet.

I have the youth model. its a blast to shot. Its like a small carbine & a great frog hunting rifle. & the lil 1s can shoot it to.

My dad has the basic, no problem for a lefty. I think the octagon also lacks the front sight hood. Buy the one you like.

If I were Santa, and if you behaved yourself during the year, I'd bring you a Henry pump. Maybe I'd throw in a Henry logo mug as well.
