I just picked up a SRH in 44 magnum with a 9.5 inch barrel. I want to put a scope on it for target shooting out to 100 and (possibly) 200 yards. I think I've narrowed my choices down to the following:

Burris 3-12 32mm
Nikon 2.5-8 28mm
Burris 2-7 32mm
Weaver 2.5-8x 28mm

This will be used strictly for paper punching, mostly from a rest, so I'm more inclined to go with the higher magnification scopes. I'm going to be loading up full-house loads, so my main concern will be durability of the scope - I want a scope that will last.

Has anyone used these, or something similar in that range? Any other recommendations or bits of advice?

Thanks!

You're probably not going to find a better pistol scope that one of the burris'. Eye relief on that 3-12X can be a bit short in the upper ranges.

I've had several Burris pistol scopes and none ever had a problem. Depending upon your scope mount, the posi-lock knob can interfere, I had this problem with a one-piece T/C mount and rings. All of the scopes I had did have the posi-lock, and none of them even had trouble with a wandering zero.

As a side note, if you plan to use higher magnifications, see if you can check out a pistol set up like that first. Because of the extended eye relief (which does often decrease at high powers), your field of view is much lower than with a rifle scope at the same power. Even on a rest I doubt I would ever use more than 6x magnification.

I use a Leupold 2.5 x 8 32mm on my S&W .500 , the 500 will punish a hand gun scope more than any other caliber made, after 300 or so rounds of various loads including Doubletap, Corbon and Hornady 500 grain...no problems at all and it comes with a lifetime warranty. The Leupold at $479.00 is a bit pricey though. I just mounted a Burris on my SRH .454 casull and have fired about 60 rounds of Corbon through it so far with no problems either

I think any of the lower range scopes will give you fine service. I would council against the upper end one though. The .44 mag is not a 200 yard round. It is a 100 yard round for those that can do it. If you have never done it, there is NO guarantee that you can.

With 12X magnification there could be a want to shoot beyond your capabilities because you can see so much better. If it were my decision to make I would buy the Burris 2-7 32mm and never look back.

ive got a burris 1x4 pwr 1" on my red hawk ,have never regretted it .
the higher the power the shakier everything gets shooting off hand
