I shoot a lot of magtech for practice ammo, but for defense I keep mine loaded with speer. Just feels a bit more powerful, plus the ballistics.

If you're plinking, whatever's cheapest and shoots best out of your pistol. If/when you decide to CCW, you should definitely try out a few different self-defense loads, but otherwise, buy cheap and stack deep for regular old range days.

They are both good practice ammo but I agree with buyingthe cheapes that will work and buy plenty of it. Right now, that is the Federal "Red Box" from Wal-Mart by mile. Its cheaper by far than either, even Magtech by the case which I can pick up at the distributor.

I shoot a lot of .40S&W when it comes to plinking I buy whats cheap, there are a few brands I stay away from but nothing too nuts.
