It's a toss up, really, but what are your preferances?

6-incher Security-Six
4-incher GP-100
3-incher Security-Six

As a field or outdoor gun, the Security-Six 6-inch is
hard to beat.

I prefer the cleaner looks of the fixed sight Service Six but either is much better looking than the GP series. Even better if it's spurless.

I really like the security, service, speed sixes in barrel lengths 4 inches or less. I really don't care for em longer than that. So I would say, 4 inches or under Security six, anything longer and I really like the GP 100.

May I vote for a sibling ?....the Speed Six. I would always go with the 2.75" barrel length given a choice.. Been owning and using the Six series for over 3 decades now and the 2.75" is the perfect barrel length in my mind.

Can't believe we haven't had any votes for the GP-100. Does anyone have both that they can photograph together?

The GP-100 has a beefier cylinder, which adds not only to the weight but to the buldge. Also, how tough is it to get a tapered barrel on a GP-100?

If you take the grips off of both guns, you'll also see that Ruger cut some costs on the frame of the GP-100. The Security-Six still looks good without grips, but the GP-100 looks a little incomplete. A photo of that comparison would be neat, too.

I have 2 Security-Six's... one 4", one 6".

I like the 4" much better. Feels better, looks better, packs better. And I'm not really sure I can shoot the 6" any better, though I guess it picks up some extra velocity.

Hmmm, maybe I'll Chrony that when the weather gets nice. :)

GP-100 seems clunky... unnecessarily so. :(

Security-Six is strong enough to handle any reasonable load... why the extra bulk?

I do like both the service six and security sixes.....especially since their grips look a lot like my Redhawks, but I also really like my new to me 357mag. GP-100 with it's 3" barrel. Its really gonna look sharp when I dress her up with a pair of nice wood grips.

It's kind of like trucks, beer, and women. Whatever you happen to be admiring at the time is the best.

GP100 versus Security-Six pictures!

I have both and, I prefer the 4-inch Security-Six over the GP100. Both are great guns-but, the Security-Six(To my eyes!)is better looking, a handier size, as tough as nails(Who needs more strength!)and will outlive you! following are some pictures comparing my 4-inch GP100 with one of my 4-inch Security-Sixes:

Which is the Purtiest? GP 100 or Security Six?

I just got today a blued security six in .38 special only for my collection of a Gp 100 in 3 and 4 inch barrel and a Security Six in also 4 inch fixed sight Stainless a;ong with a p-85,95,P345 and a SP101 in 2.25 inch barrel. Thanks,Rich Ziemies,Omaha,Ne.

Geesh, I should have made this a poll.

It's interesting to see the results, however. I wonder if Ruger has ever done any market research on this. By going back to the older cylinder size and the tapered barrel, people might actually start carrying it.
