I know, I know, Kimber is better, but it's also more expensive. I originally thought I would go with Springfield, but I am having a hard time going with something that isn't US made. Springfield tends to "trick" people on that fact too, which I don't really like. So, now I am in "comparing mode". :banghead:

SO, which Kimber is similar to a Springfield Loaded Target model????

I will be shooting USPSA, so it has to have the same specs as the Springfield Target model.

the Custom Target or Stainless Target depending on the finish you want.
The Kimber doesnt have a magwell from the factory but it seems to be a couple hundred bucks cheaper.

The link you posted to the springfield was specifically the "black stainless" loaded target model. I'm not sure if you meant that was the finish you wanted, or if that was just a random Loaded model with adjustable sights.

If thats the finish you want though, the clear choice in a Kimber is the Eclipse Target II. A very similar gun all around to the specific link you gave.

Hey, don't give me a hard time. Everyone I ask generally says Kimber is the way to go. I think people like the fact that they ARE made in the US. I sure do.

I have heard of many problems with the older Kimbers with external extractors. I have a newer Stainless Target II with internal extractor that is flawless (3000+ rounds). It would be my favorite range gun if I could afford to feed it. I have a buddy that has a loaded Springfield that is a jamommatic. It is on it's way back to Springfield now and when it returns I am sure it will run just fine. When I was shopping for my Kimber I was a $100.00 short from buying a Kimber Team Match II with an external extractor. I think it was a sighn from the heavens because of all the bad things I heard about them. Newer 5" Kimbers are just fine.

Any of the kimber customs would be a good alternative to a springer loaded.

As far as kimbers being better or worse than springfields they're not really either. I've known a lot of people who have owned both, and I've personally shot both, and they're both excellent guns. Buy whichever one feels best in your hand and that gives you the features you want. Oh yeah, and I know someone mentioned warranties earlier and the deal with that is that springfield specifically states they have a lifetime warranty. Kimber does not specifically state anything but I've never known anyone who couldn't get one repaired "under warranty" even guns that were really old.

Anything wrong with your Kimber AT ALL, call the Custom Shop, send it to them, and they will fix it, replace it, or give you a new one.

For what it's worth, I am running a bottom end Custom II in both SS and Lim-10. Paid about 720, add ons, TFO sights about 80.00 installed, Ed Brown MSH and magwell along with Wilson Combat barrel link (had them done together along with polish of barrel throat sear etc. for 160.00). Totals about 960.00 Might give you a comparison between buying with the addons upfront and what you would add onto a lower end gun. Big expense for me has been magazines, 6 or so Wilson Combat 8rd, and half a dozen Tripp Research 10rd. That expense, basically you're gonna have with any competition bottom feeder. Looks like you decided to go for the .45acp. Take care, be safe and have fun.

Once again, if one really, really feels that only 1911s made wholly in the USA are worthy, buy the Kimber and limit yourself ... but for those of us who appreciate the platform and a well-made pistol, we understand that there's some pretty doggone good steel that originated in China (Norinco), Brazil (IMBEL/SA) and Argentina (Sistema). "Made in USA" doesn't necessarily mean a superior product, just as "Made in Brazil" doesn't mean an inferior product.

My Kimbers and Springfields coexist peacefully in my safes, come out to play together often, and I like 'em all pretty much equally.

i have only had one issue with kimber lol your not going to beleave this!dad bought a eclipse target kimber last year new.....we took it out a shot it and it was shooting all over the place.....took it back to the gunshop were it was bought the guy took it apart....and the inside of the thing was full of foam, little white pellets it was everywhere you just couldn't see it with the slide on.....lol once all of that was taken care of it shot just fine

this is a good reason to disassemble and clean new guns, or used ones for that matter. before shooting them.

Kimber and Springfield have a life time warranty... you can't go wrong with either, I own 2 of each.

If you truely want an American Made 1911: Wilson Combat, Ed Brown & Les Baer ;) I know they're spendy, I've actually thined down the 1911 collection, with the prospect of buying a Wilson or Brown next.

Remember this; if you don't buy what you want now, you'll be paying a gunsmith for it latter :(

Kimber and Springfield have a life time warranty...
kimber has a lifetime warranty ? when did that start? as i was tracking they have a 1-2 year warranty, i have called kimber myself when i was in the market for a fighting 1911. that was one of the questions i asked.

sturmgewehr, I went to that link where the Kimbers is dissected (I tend to doubt that is a brand new gun) ... I have seen several Springfields that looked JUST like that as well. I have also seen some nice ones. Most of the Kimbers I have held were quality. So, I guess it depends on the gun.

I've started to figure out that unless one pays $1,000 and up, there does not seem to be quality anything. I guess you get what you pay for...

thanks for the help everyone
