District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department uses the Glock 17 (3,800 officers)

thank you all for the honest & serious responses; thank you also to the wise persons for their 'colorful' responses...I need a chuckle every so often; I'm getting too old to keep up with the Jones & knowing that a portion of our LE organizations still use 9mm gives me some assurance that it is a viable choice for civilian SD;

on a sidebar about the "Obama Rush," I currently load with Winchester WWB Personal Defense 147gr jhp or Remington UMC 115gr jhp; WalMart seems to be one of the few stores that is actually keeping up with demand (in stock or restocked weekly)...I stopped by my local Gander Mountian and they are barren; seems to be the same with the local Bass Pro Shop; Dick's is hit or miss; even mom-n-pop shops that are known to carry niche loads are running low

Local PD (Fairfax Co.) uses Federal 9BPLE in their P226/P228 pistols though I heard they're switching to new sig pistols in .40. Makes sense as the local Sheriffs Office uses .40cal Glocks.

I haven't heard many complaints if any about its use here and there have been a few shootings which ended well for the officers.

Some of the rural community police departments in my part of Texas carry 9mm handguns.

One carries Glocks another carries Sigs and yet another carries Barretta.

PUllman WAsh State City cops use Glock 17 with Ranger T ammo.

FWIW/FYI - The (Whitman) County Sheriffs use
Kimber 1911s in .45 ACP.
