Hi everyone it's been awhile since I was on here. I just recently bought a Stevens 200 in 30-06 and if you have shot this rifle in 30-06 or 308 you probably know what I'm talking about when I say the recoil pad on this rifle is less than forgiving. I would like to get a Limbsaver recoil pad for my rifle but I'm a little confused on which one to get. I didn't see one made directly for Stevens so I'm hoping one if the Savage ones will work. Any help is appreciated! Thanks

I have the same rifle in .308 and the stock and sad excuse for a recoil pad is less than forgiving. I went out and bought a Limbsaver medium size slip on pad for ~$35. I shot it today for the first time with the pad on and it seems to work quite well. I had relatively thick clothing on but I could definitely feel that the recoil was lessened.

P.S. it fits well and I am more than happy with the results.

Go to the SVL website and print (follow the instructions exactly or it won't work correctly) their master template file. You may be able to match the stock to an existing pre-fit pad. Other than no sanding, the other nice thing about that is that the pre-fit pads usually come out being a little softer than the grind-to-fit pads because they can minimize the outside wall thickness (because they assume no further grinding will be done).

I just bought a Stevens 200 in 300 win mag and was looking for a limbsaver pad since my factory pad was broke. I couldn't find one that was a perfect fit so what I did was I bought model limbsaver #10601 for the Savage 110 wood stock. The fit wasn't real good so I ended up slotting the screw holes in the bottom side of the recoil pad to make them longer so I could slide it to match the contour of the stock. I put the pad on flush with the top and sides of the stock but the pad was still about 1/8" short. Once I added the Allen Buttstock Rifle Ammunition Carrier 9-Round Nylon Black #206 it covered the gap nice. I'm not sure if you would be interested in doing this or not but I didn't have a choice since my factory pad was busted. I like how it turned out and I think it looks better than the factory pad that fit! It’s also not bad to shoot.
