I'm interested in the M&P 45 "without" the mag safety.

It looks like (from looking at the DOJ accepted handguns list) only the models "with" the mag safety are legal in California.

Does anyone know if models without the mag safety are being sold in California?

I don't believe there's any law that says you can't have it removed, or remove it yourself, after you buy the gun.

Dealers just aren't allowed to sell new guns that aren't "on the list".

Thanks all.

Well, not all. No thanks to the DOJ or most any California politician... but thanks to you guys for the answers!

Speaking that your not even legally allowed to mod a car in CA unless its a CARB approved part. I dont think that they will want you moding your guns. Its like when the micro stamping thing comes out and has to be on guns, taking that off is going to be illegal.

We live in CA. It sucks, but its home.

Maybe; but it is not illegal today to modify a gun to change those required (mis)features. It would be illegal for a dealer to sell such a modified weapon, though.

Darthbauer is right only in respect to guns not already on the Roster before the mag disconnect and LCI were required (1 Jan 2007). Guns on the list before then and that stay on the list are not required to have them. See here.

As Librarian mentioned, it is legal today to modify your gun.

The M&P happens to be one of the easiest to disable the mag disconnect, using factory parts, or a spring from a ball point pen. At least the .40S&W and the 9mm are that way.

You can get the model without the mag disconnect if you are LE, so they are available in California if you buy one from a LEO in a private party sale.
