I recently bought a full size (not sure if they make other sizes in GI style but I figured more info is better) Rock Island Armory 1911 in .45 ACP. My question is what magazines will work with this gun as I want to get a few more than the one it comes with. Any help would be appreciated.

Just about any good 1911 will work. Unfortunately, there is an endless debate about what is considered a good 1911 mag.

The most often recommended models come from Chip McCormick, Wilson, and Tripp Research. I also like some of the models offered by CheckMate.

You can buy direct from those makers, but I usually buy from either Brownell's or Top Gun Supply.

Brownell's http://www.brownells.com/magazines/handgun-magazines/magazines/index.htm?avs|Make_3=1911

Top Gun Supply http://www.topgunsupply.com/1911-magazines/

Whatever you buy, you are looking for full size magazines. They are also listed as Government/Commander size.

There is a lot of 1911 mag advice available on the internet, but the most valuable piece of information I've found is this blog post from the late Stephen A. Camp http://hipowers-handguns.blogspot.com/2010/11/what-is-best-7-or-8-shot-1911-45-acp.html

I have two full size RIA 1911's in .45 (also a .45 Compact and a 9mm Tactical), and several of the standard RIA mags, lots of CMC's, and a few Colts too. My RIA's work happily with any of them. I've only owned one problem mag, some kind of no-name junker, don't even know where it came from. But I know where it went.....

My 1911 gets the original Colt mag that came with it, and CMC powermags that I bought. I only have 400 rounds through the gun so far, but no failures.
