Which major manufacturer will likely be next to make a 1911?

Rumour is, Taurus has a few Colt clones in R&D now. The Colt SAA, Lightning rifle and possibly a Series 80 style 1911. Taurus has been bad about announcements and then delays though.
 
I vote Taurus. Nobody makes cheap copies of good guns like Taurus. I am surprised they haven't done it already. I am surprised that every handgun company hasn't already made a 1911 clone considering that they have to be about the cheapest gun to make since there is no R&D and no royalities to be paid.
 
I kind of wish Taurus would make one. They are known for making firearms in non-mainstream calibers, so a 10mm Taurus would be in the realm of possibility..
 
I thought there was an announcement about HK doing one... hmm, might have been a dream then.

Taurus would be the expected choice though, but I voted HK due to my "dream waves".
 
1911 is actually pretty pricey to make. even though there's no R&D and royalty/patent left on it, the gun was designed back in the days of non CNC machinery. You can't really do an investment cash on such a slim slide/frame, so basically mfg have to mill the slide and the frame, which are very costly compared to polymer/alum/cast operations.
 
IIRC, Ruger does make the cast Caspian 1911 frame. It wouldn't be a long stretch for Ruger to produce a 1911. I don't see it though.

Wasn't a dream, I recall that as well, although I dont recall it being confirmed or denied by HK. Just kinda forgot about it untill now.

I'm surprised Taurus isnt making one.
 
My vote would go for CZ. Before Sig came out with the 1911 a gun rag had a rumor of sig and CZ in the making of 1911s. Sig came out with the 1911 a couple months later. i am still waiting on CZ's 1911.

Taurus seems reasonable.

1911 not really HK's style...

And Ruger, as far as I know, has always designed their own guns. It would surprise me if they started making a 1911 clone.

I've heard that, but I'm not sure how true it is.

I understand the Security/Speed/Service Six revolvers were very similar to K-frame S&W's... although I believe the internals are different.

I vote Taurus, because their buddies in the IMBEL factory could easily make a bunch of guns for Taurus to slap their name on.
