found a local store that has several mosin's for sale. which of the following would be the most collectible? sorry, i didn't pay enough attention to see if they were matching or not so figure that they are not matching numbers.

1941 m39 vkt
1944 m39 sako
1944 91/30 tikka barrel
1940 m91 tikka azf marked?
1941 m91 tikka oewg marked?
and some sa marked m91 and m91/30's

they are all priced in the $100-150 range....which ones should be picked up? i posted over at surplusrifles but since i can only get 2 and i'm new into milsurps, i need as much help as possible.

All THOSE are marked at $150 each? Verified Finns go for about $100-$200 more than that, so snag 'em all! If I had to get just one, get the Sako.

Ditto.

You could, at least, make a decent profit on Gunbroker - or keep them and have some very nice Mosins for a great price.

Ummm. All under $150?

I'd say
Yes
Yes
Yes
Yes
Yes and
Yes

But if you have to choose, the M39 VKT and Sakos are pretty easy to find and will be around awhile yet. I'd go for the Tikka 91/30's and M-91's. The captured 91's and 91/30's with otherwise Russian/Soviet parts may not be as good a shooters.

Things to look for are ROUND RECEIVER Tikka 91/30's and M91's. These are uncommon and collectible.

All of those are fundamentally rare rifles of excellent quality. To give you an idea of how rare, while tens of millions of 91/30's were churned out of the USSR arsenals, most of the Finnish rifles were produced in lots under 100,000 and sometimes under 20,000. They are ALL collector's items, though the market hasn't quite learned to tell the difference between Soviet and Finn yet.

FYI, the AZF marking indicates that rifle was captured by the Austrians during WWI, and the OEWG also indicates Austrian capture, with subsequent refurbishment by Steyr. That rifle may bear closer examination, as Steyr also converted some captured Mosins to fire the Austrian-standard 8X50R cartridge used in the Steyr-Mannlicher M95 straight-pull rifle. If it has been converted, I'd say that OEWG rifle would be the rarest and possibly most collectible of the lot. If the shop will allow it, check the bore diameter at the muzzle by sticking a round of 8X57mm Mauser and a 7.62X54 round into the bore, bullet first. Since the barrel is Tikka-marked, it's probably going to be in 7.62X54, but you never know until you check...

Okay, so you can only afford about $300 of Mosins at this point...HAGGLE. Try to work out a package deal on 3, 4 or 5 rifles - you never know if you don't ask. Or, put as many as you can on LAYAWAY, and pick 'em up one by one over the next few months. If you really can't swing either of those options, then send me the store's contact info by Private Message, and I'll have my favorite local FFL receive whatever he has left...

It's probably good that you didn't post your location - because they wouldn't be there when you got back!
