Which New Deer and Antelope Rifle?

Curious as to how your accuracy ( POA vs. POI ) was. Tight groups ( precision ) are nice and we all like to shoot them, but they don`t do you much good in a hunting rifle if they are way off from your aiming point. With my hunting rifles, I don`t worry as much about group size as I do how accurately the rifle is shooting.

Wouldn't decent groupings be 1.75" and under @100 yd. for almost any hunting rifle ?. I was simply shocked that ammunition made a 4.0" difference in accuracy @100 yd. Given it shooting a 5.0" grouping lord only knows where a 300 yd. shot would end up:eek:

Anyone shooting service rifles knows 2.5-4.0" groups is fairly common among surplus ammo and worn barrels , a good scrubbing and careful handloads can generally cut those groups in half. A new barrel and in half again generally speaking .

I've Never personally reduced group sizes from much more than 1.25" perhaps 1.5" from factory ammunition to handloads and honestly that would be MY extremes .

The ONLY Rifle I ever had which wouldn't go under 2" @100 Yd. was an H&H .375 and I screwed with it for #45 years ,just wasn't made to do it . However ANY handload or factory shell would stay under 3.0" all day long ,so it wasn't ammo and a dozen fellows or more shot it over it's life with Me . I've a few .338 Mags including a LM but setting it aside the other two Win mags will stay around 1.2" 1.6" at 200 Yd. until your arm is sore . The target below is from My older M1 Garand ,which appears to have been used a time or 20 to assist a tank track retreading !. And Old DCM purchase . Anyhow unbeknown to Me at the time it's pinion was stripped and I was unable to move the peep ,so all #8 are in those holes around the date and that's just plain stock sights . Bottom photo . The above target was same day and I didn't have My glasses ,so I might have used the front ear guard blade as the sight or pulled the shot ?
Focus is Toughest for ME from 0-36" and I NEED glasses for that . Now at distance I still see pretty darn good ,it's just Iron sights rear to front that's difficult . An again I can see the plate but NO lines or #'s regardless of color @ 165 Yd. it looks like a soup can end now days .

Cool rifle and outstanding scope! Glad you all didn’t get your deer in that country, I can almost taste the dust/sage marinaded venison just looking at your pictures :)
